I have a 2008 Vee with the aluminum alloy heat shields. After removing my soft bags I noticed some small black marks (scratches) in the metal. I thought I could just take some fine steel wool and buff them out, however this seemed to make matters worse.

Any way to remove these marks without having to paint the heat shields?

I did do a search, however everytime you use the word shield you end up with all of the windshield posts.

I would try some fine (brown) Scotch-Brite and go with the grain of the brushed finish. Don't apply much pressure and go straight in line with the grain! You can also spray some WD-40 on the Scotch Brite to help speed up things a bit, but go easy, any good hardware store should have it. Cheers--BB
