Suzuki you should put in the owners manual that this engine needs to be revved to at least 5000 rpm before shifting. It would be best to operate the motorcycle in a higher gear than one might ordinarily use to keep the rpm up. Above all keep the revs up going uphill or under load. I think this is what leads to clutch basket dammage.

I honestly don't notice any issues. I weigh 185 lbs, and feel that the bike pulls hard and smooth at ANY RPM except 6th gear. There is no issue in 6th gear, it's just that it is a crawler gear and I hardly use it! Maybe the 05's got cured. I had some problems BEFORE, I remapped my FI. Now, the engine and tranny runs perfect. Anyone that has ridden my bike, has come back with a BIG grin on their face. "Man this bike will haul butt"! This is a race engine in sheeps clothing, why would you want to lugg the engine.

Well...6 th on the Vstrom is actually pretty low for an overdrive. By contrast I think my FZ-1 had overdrive in 6th AND 5th. Im a lug it around sort of guy and i think youre a rev it up sort of guy. And Id bet thats why youve had few problems.

I am only a rev it kind of guy, when the mood strikes me! The 650... is NOTHING but high revving. I have never come close to hitting the rev limiter on my bike. I had an 03 Bandit 1200s, before I bought the big Strom. I think that the Strom loses very little in terms of acceleration and torque, compared to the Bandit. The Bandit didn't like to be lugged either. I usually don't hit 6th until I go 70 to 75 MPH..... all I do is crack the throttle, and SHE GOES!! That is really low RPM's for this engine. A Harley or metric cruiser, will be working really hard at these RPM's. Totally different type of Vtwin engine in this puppy. Ducati's, Aprilias, Honda Superhawks, TL1000R and VStrom engines... these are high performance race based engines. As long as you continue to lugg the Strom's engine, you will probably feel like there is something wrong. This isn't just my opinion, MANY others are sure to agree. Happy riding!!! 8) Have you seen the new FZ1... SWEET!!! drool..... drool....

Can we get our 05's flashed with a 06 map?
I don't see how..... the 06's will more than likely have a different ECU. They might swap one for you. I am sure not for FREE! Have a dealer remap with a yosh box, 5% at low range should do it! All you need is a little more fuel with the air coming in. Yosh or Teka box reprogram.. will solve the problems.

Had my strom since august 2005 and 4500 km up to now. Never experienced the revving problems you guys are talking about. The thing pulls strongly from about 3500 all the way to about 7500-8000, at which point, it somehow seems to lose steam when in 5th and 6th gear. Otherwise, will rev up to redline. Never experienced any ''shutoff'' though.
Only complaint is a noisy tranny in 5th and 6th. Sort of a whiny noise. Dealer says its nothing to worry about. Has somewhat diminished since the thing hit the 4000 km mark. Guess its all about breaking it in.

I wouldnt imagine under those conditions that youd have any problem. Its when you try to accelerate under load at anything less than 3500 rpm that the motor complains a little.

Brian has the solution!!! A remap is the simple way to go. I only kick myself in the ass for riding my new bike unhappy for 2000 miles with all the surges and hiccups at low RPM's!!!!! A good shop, twenty minutes, and $38 put a huge smile on my face!!!!!!!!! REMAPPING............Be like NIKE- Just Do It!
