I just received a new longer upper brake line and banjo brake bleeder for the master cylinder from SV Racing parts and I was wondering what the technique is for bleeding the brakes is. I have bled a single brake line running to a single disc brake before, but with the ABS and dual front brakes and all the hoses associated with it , I am feeling a little over my head. Does anyone have step by step info or a link to a how to do it. I need to to get this done and really need some support. Any input appreciated, thanks Bob.

Keep brake fluid off paint.

Install your parts. Fill the reservoir with DOT4 brake fluid and do not let it go empty while you're bleeding it...or you get to start over. Squeeze the lever, crack the bleeder, and catch the fluid and wet bubbles on a rag. close the bleeder, release the lever, top off the reservoir, do it again. And again. and again until the lever is firm. If it doesn't get firm, strap down the lever overnight to allow the bubbles to rise into the reservoir.

Give Blair at SVRacing a call. I understand he has a clear explanation on how best to use the upper bleeder fitting. He has a history of assisting folks here. Having said that I also installed the same on my 2011. I actually simply refilled the reservoir and very lightly squeezed the lever. Just moving the lever I saw a stream of air bubbles appear. I kept it up until they stopped then used a velcro strip tied the lever down and let it sit overnight. next morning all appeared OK. I do admit I may need to bleed again but it's been several months. If he gives you a better method please post.

Google galpher brake line installation, galfer has posted videos on YouTube that show you how to install the new lines and bleed them. It goes over bleeding with the banjo bolt via the master Cylinder.

Thanks for the input everyone. I assume I have to bleed out both front brake lines all the way down to the calipers correct?

yes, bleed both calipers until you get fresh fluid with no air, but...air in fluid rises. The air in the brake hoses won't go down to the calipers. it goes up to the master cylinder.

I did mine the other day, installed the line and left the lower bolt loose and filled the master until it dripped out then tightened it, I reverse bled the system by pushing the on the callipers to push the fluid back into the master, flicked the lever a bunch of times and then pumped them back up and repeated the process a few times, feels better than before, the lever is further out than before after going for a ride, never cracked the bleeders once and only used enough fluid to top up the master.

Well, I just bit the bullet and popped for a Mityvac vacuum bleeder for my install, not cheap at $40, but after watching some you tube videos and reading online, it seems to be the gizmo of choice. Besides never pass up a chance to buy a manly tool eh? I could probably put this off indefinitely if I just keep shopping for more stuff to do the job. Haha! To think this all started with a 1" , $28 dollar handlebar riser. Now I'm into this job an extra $140 in supporting parts and tools. This really is a special kind of sickness were all into you know. :yikes:

Oh good grief, if you need to do this too go to the maintenance how to section to see the excellent write up with pictures done by Bigboy 292000. Wish I would've seen this first. Pretty much what I was looking for in the first place.

how to bleed break line

i use a 60 ml syringe open the bleed valve and pump it in from the bottom up seems ta work fine forces the air up toward the master cylinder, works better than pushin air down through the lines. :green_lol:

This is also the way I did it when replacing an entire line.
The master cylinder is not big enough to push out the air unless it is mostly full of brake fluid already.
just force it up from the bottom with a syringe until you have the system mostly full, then pump and bleed at the caliper as you would bleed car brakes.
do be sure and keep brake fluid away from paint and plastic.

Ok, I got 'er done. A lot of helpful info at Galfer.com , some videos to watch. Used the Mityvac, seemed to work pretty well, I moved a lot of brake fluid through the line, probably more than necessary but I wanted to ensure that all the air was removed. I was going to post pictures of the process but thats already been covered by others. Overall it wasn't terribly difficult to do, at one point I needed the help of a second person because of the reach between the brake lever and the front calipers. One error I made and it cost me some do over time, was I didn't position the line properly and after installing the line it was interfering with the inside of fairing. Had to remove it and reposition it then re-bleed the system. Live and learn huh?

Vac tool

For thoes of U that are near/fimiluar with Auto Zone..... The Company has always offered FREE loan A Tool program.
U have to leave a full Value deposit. U can get a full refund when the tool is returned. If the store doesn't have what U need in stock they can eather find it at another store or order it from the Local Distribution center.
Many of Auto Zone competitors have this service also.
Too let u know......... yeh thats right........But I retired from Auto zone in 2007 .
