[I searched, but did not find any discussion on this . . . ]
I can't seem to find a good way to carry oil for my chain. Bottles can be sealed, but they make application hard to do. Squirt bottles make application easier, but they always seem to leak. Aerosol cans don't leak (unless you forget to put the cap on), but they are bulky and not cheap (and seem to go all over the place unless you have the small red spray tube - that always gets lost on the road). Maybe there is a bottle that has a good way to apply the oil? Or a squirt bottle that does not leak? Or an aerosol can that is small and not expensive and . . . you can't lose the small spray tube? Any suggestions?

Spray cans come in 2 sizes for many brands. I use either Bel-Ray or Amsoil. The small one resides in the tool tube and the larger for homeThe tool tube one is wrapped in a red shop along with latex gloves and blue disposable towels(Cut in half). Amount of gloves varys depending on miles and days gone.

I'm not sure what a long trip is yet - my longest thus far is 45 miles. But I keep a can of Chain Wax in my pannier all the time.

But my rear wheel spins a lot easier right after I wax the chain.
Need a bigger motor maybe? In all seriousness, the gunk you put on chain attracts dirt. So yes, if you spray or rub stuff on it and wipe the grime off then the chain mover easier.

It's quieter too.
I check the tension and wax the chain every ride or two.
To the OP, I carry a small plastic bottle of the DuPont lube, but it's leaking for no good reason. I would skip that one.

I carry my maxima synthetic lube in the plastic tool tube attached to my side bag frame on the left side. It also holds the 22 mm axle nut wrench, Allen wrench for adjusting the chain and gloves. You can purchase the tube at a bike shop that specializes in adventure bikes or a John Deere dealership ( holds the tractor manual I believe) Ted
