I always wash my wee, but over the years quite a few baked on bugs, or bug silhouettes I don't know what to call it show up in the black painted fairing and black front fender of the bike, I can wash and scrub and the hazey outline of a bug splat doesn't go away, I've tried using carnuba wax and a pad and it has no effect, how do I get rid of it?

polishing

Carnuba wax will do absolutely nothing, nor should it. A cleaner wax might, a very light polishing compound will probably be better, might try toothpaste first (it's a mild polishing compound).

Trick is to not let them get baked on in the first place.

Maybe something like Prepsol or similar pre spray painting solvent/degreaser.

Or spray WD40 on and leave it for a short time then wipe off with a good non scratching cloth [old T-shirts are good], then wash with soap and water as per normal.
