I have been wanting to add a skid plate to my Wee but they are expensive and I am about broke from all the other stuff I just to have for my it. So I looked around the work shop to see what I could build out of shop stock for free.
This is what I came up with. It is no work of art but I think it will give me some protection from road debris. All it cost me was a Sunday afternoon.

I think I can take off the oil filter with it on and I did cut a hole for the drain plug. However it can be removed by taking out 3 bolts . The main plate is 3/16 aluminum plate and the brackets are ¼” aluminum angle.
Bending that plate was a trip. Here is the rig I came up with to make it bend.

I finished it late Sunday and took off for a 450 mile trip Monday morning. (Orlando to Ft. Walton Beach, FL) No problems so far. I hope there are none because I have to ride it home Friday, another 450 miles.

Nice work......you can have the satisfaction, of knowing "YOU" made it! Will you still save up for a new skidplate, or keep yours on?

I love it:cool:
Looks like something I'd come up with-Rube Goldberg is my specialty.

one-of-a-kind-skidplate

Dang! That's beautiful! Did you growup in a junkyard? Love the break. Looks like it is subtantial enough to withstand a good whack.

Thank you for the inspiration.

Thanks Guys!
Big B, I may just keep this one. Even though the factory ones look much betted, I kind of like the DIY "custom" look.

Love the design but I would be a little concerned about what effect it would have on cooling air getting to the front of the engine. Did you see any difference in the temp gauge?

I didn't see any difference. 3 bars as always. I was running 75 to 80 true (GPS) coming up here and it was warm toward the end of the ride so I think it is OK.
However I do plan to open up the holes for more flow when I get back, I just ran out of time Sunday.
