new to me 08 dl650 abs w/ 7500 miles - ive put less then 500miles on it.

i keep it in a garage- pulling it out it starts up immediately and runs fine

but after a ride around town or about on hot days, after getting back on sometimes pressing ignition i get a glitchy 2-4 cycle time startup then seems to run fine.

today first day i rode it and parked it outside for a few hours - in charleston sc- in 90's w/ high humidity. just went to ride after all day in the sun and wont start right- sometimes does then dies. few times started and idled for a bit- but any throttle i added in nueutral or 1st around 2k rpms it dies

mechanical or a heat issue?

i checked w/ suzuki america regarding the recall on the glue/board delamentaing in hot temps causing electrical issues and they said i was clear

8 at night- figured id have to deal w/ dealership tomorrow(didnt buy from them) so thought id try mob iq

wah

thanks
pete

Your throttle body airbox boot came off under the fuel tank...
ok thanks

i have a bottle opener and a set of golf clubs- i'm assuming they aren't right tools for the job.

seen tbs stuff referenced here and as this is first moto my eyes usually glaze over- the throttle body boot the rubber short tube that carries 'cleaned' air into the air intakes?

assuming that the tank has to be removed so a shop call is in order or is it something i can wiggle back on from the side with the tank still on?

(did searching and read a bunch of posts but didnt exactly figure it out- im 1/2 irish, 1/4 german, and 2/3's moron - so sorry if i missed explanations on forum)
If it runs okay except for being hard to start after being out in the heat, there is nothing wrong mechanically. The heat is evaporating fuel from the tank through the breather and charcoal canister into the intake and flooding the engine. All you need to do is open the throttle to let in extra air if it doesn't start right away. Really, that's all it takes. The charcoal canister doesn't have the capacity to handle all the evaporated fuel.

Not on these fuel-injected, computer-controlled bikes. The "brain" will sense a very lean condition and pour in enough gas to cause the motor to race. Been there, done that. Refitted the boot and all was well.
I'd lean towards a dodgy battery. There are many threads on here that show a variety of running issues when the battery is no longer up to snuff. I'm inclined to agree with GW that it isn't a mechanical issue.
greywolf wins again- opening up throttle seems to work. leaving it in cool garage no issue starting/running. letting it sit in hot sun/high humidty of the dirty south is the issue. battery/boot checks were fine.

thanks for the help. :hurray:

This happens on my '08 on hot days after riding for a while. It's not a big deal. I give it some throttle after startup and hold it for a few seconds and then it runs fine. Greywolf seems to be spot on.
