I have both Handy and Pit-Bull stands and I can't get either to work w/my DL1k b/c of that massive black fender!! :twisted: I'm confident it's operator error but Stromette can't figure it out and I need to clean my chain! Pit-Bull owners can you give me a tip to make this work? Does spooled/non-spooled make a difference? (I can go either).

I use a PitBull [with spools] on both a DL650 and a DL1000. The rear fender gets slightly in the way but easily flexes through the lift and drop. You can shorten your fender too [link http://stromtrooper.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2712&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=fender+mod]

If you had the Pit Bull front handle rear stand, you would have no problems..... :wink: My buddy has that stand, and it works awesome. The front handle, rear stand is alot easier to use on any bike that has rear spools. Worth the money!!!! 8)

Hey Brian - what exactly are you referring to in the "front handle rear stand"? I just looked on the pit-bull.com site and they aren't calling any of their stands specifically by that name. :? I have their "Standard Rear Stand" for my spool & non-spool bikes. I've not put spools on the Strom yet so perhaps that is the trick to using this stand w/the bike?? Are you saying getting the spools on the Strom is "worth the money"? I feel like a moron having these stands (also have a Handy rear stand) and can't get anything to work. :oops:

Are you using spools w/your Stroms? Can this whole flexing the fender thing while getting the bike on the stand can be done solo? I'm having trouble visualizing this contortion w/just me, the stand and the Strom. :roll: Geez, I better get those crash bars on first!

Stromette.. the stand that I am refering to is called .... Pit Bull forward handle Rear Stands I like the rear spools on my bike, I actually have the pitbull spools on my Strom. I don't have a centerstand, and really don't want one. This stand works really good!! Major maint or laziness, I use my buddy's pit bull stand. Wheel cleaning and chain lubing, I use my rollastand. Hope this info helps!! :)

Each bike has a set of spools (locktite'd on)

After getting spotted (yes practice with a spotter) I developed a technique I am comfortable with (I wish I could show you). I am relunctant to describe it exactly (but I will try), because I am 6'3" 195 lbs, with the proportional chimp arms you might expect on someone my height. You might have to check other people's techniques.

1. I preposition the stand near the rear of the bike (seems obvious).
2. I right the bike from the left side keeping the front wheel straight (if you right the bike from the rear the front wheel can "fall" to either side upsetting your balance). Some folks my prefer to start with the wheel to the left already.
3. I work my hands to the rear passenger rails.
4. With my left hand as the primary on the left passenger rail, I walk to the rear and lean over the back letting my body stand ready to support the bike should it lean back towards the sidestand (always bias the bikes balance back towards you, it's to hard to catch a bike falling to the right)
5. With my free right hand I reach down and tilt up the stand, hooking the catches beneath both spools and leveraging pressure on them
6. With a good grip on the leveraged stand, I walk to the rear of the bike and either push down on the stand handle (or step on it) to lift the bike and lock the stand in place.

It all happens slowly and smoothly (except the final push to lift the bike). The idea is to do the process without upsetting the balance at anytime. For example If the spools don't line up perfectly, just smoothly back-off, re-balance the bike, and re-apply.

Again, practice with a spotter (yes, mother, I will) :roll:

If after a time you are not comfortable doing it alone, simply don't.

I just got the HANDY stands, but got the swing arm pads instead of the spools. It actually works pretty good.
