Help me decide on the accessories please

Hello everyone,
So I went for a test ride on the 800 DE yesterday. I own a 2019 650. We own two of those aside from our BMW's. We used the 650's for a 55k km ride from Argentina to Alaska last year.
I'm actually a little too tall for the 650, I really can't stand up comfortably when riding off-road even with the risers. And there was the ground clearance... Man we hit so many traffic humps and rocks and such that in the end we had to have the skid plate shortened to deploy the centerstand. Other than that the bikes performed very well.
So the local dealer had this demo sale and hm I just went ahead and pulled the trigger and am now having it delivered sometime soon as we first will go on another trip from the Netherlands to Georgia and back.. so that's 14k km for the next two months.

Now to get to the point:
-Which skid plate for riding more off-road?
-Which head light protection if any?
-Which auxiliary lights that fit within the crash bars and are not to low down?
-Which luggage racks if I want to use my Mosko Moto Back Country panniers (not sure yet if I want those- they're currently on the BMW GSA). Maybe reckless is lighter.
And what other accessories did you put on?
Thanks for the info and help.
Greetings form the Netherlands

I would fit a peg lowering kit to your DL650.

Perhaps Rick might be thinking of designing a footpeg lowering kit for the DL800 as well.

Greetings from the US.

ROX makes 2 inch handlebar risers. Not sure if that will be enough for you (as you make that bike look like a 250.......said the 5 foot 8 inch guy), and you will probably need to change the brakes lines and such.

Other accessories........that all depends upon your style of riding. I just got done adding cruise control, Denali lights, GPS wiring (See the write up I posted in this forum). SRCMoto and Hepco & Becker both make headlight guards for the DL800, from what I have seen searching the web. I would be surprised if Touratech didn't have one soon.

I am waiting for someone to engineer and offer foot peg lowering kits for the DL800. My hips would appreciate it.

Center stand, side stand foot expander and decent foot pegs is a great start.

Beyond these, just ride the bike. It will tell
you what it needs based on your riding style.

Everything on the bike has to break in. Even seat foam.

If you intend to do g-outs…get a massive bash plate. If road and fire road, stock is fine.

Headlight protector on headlights already viewed as too small will cut down further on light projection. The lens have a fender and beak protection now.

Haven’t seen a lowering kit yet. Haven’t seen much of anything on aftermarket specific to this bike.

I have an 800de and have quite a few add ons done. I got some fog lights from Cosmo in recently but haven't installed yet so I can't vouch for them. Same for my yet to be installed center stand.

Your gonna need a skid plate, crash bars, and proper hand guards for sure. I did OEM skid plate and crash bars because it was convenient. Barkbusters handguards are easy enough.

I've also put on Bumot panniers and racks. Then got the giant loop siskyou soft bags for those dirt trips.

One I consider the most clutch is the mirror extenders that Rick sells. Gives me much more clarity in my rear view and the cost is minimal.

I've WAY overdone the mods because I love tinkering and working on the bike. It's like every minute I work on it engrains it into my soul.

Not sure how much help this post is as I've only just taken delivery of my 800RE a couple weeks ago, but I've found a number of things I'm keen to upgrade (some more urgent than others):

Lights - stock ones are flat out dangerous for me. I use my bike for long daily/nightly commuting (like ~100klm each way), some of it through winding, kangaroo-infested county roads. Sorry but those standard lights are just crap, I'm flying blind every time and have had near misses four times so far.
I've got a pair of Stedi MX-25 spotlights (not sure if available outside Australia - I'm assuming they are) and mounted them on an SW Motech Light Mount under the duck bill, which turned out pretty neat. Theyre not wired up yet due to my getting messed around by my (former) dealership, but I'm booked in somewhere else end of next week. So if I live until then, I'll let you know how these lights turned out.

Luggage - I sometimes stay overnight somewhere closer to work, so I need to be able to carry 'stuff'. I love that the bike comes with a rack already, and a pretty decent one at that. Still, I'm about to get the SW Motech Adventure Rack + Extension thing. That should get me through indefintely, but I do intend to get back into a bit of touring again in the future. Plus I want to make this bike my daily ride, so side panniers are definitely on my horizon. I don't like hard panniers, and really like the Mosko Moto stuff. Currently thinking Backcountry side bags and 40Ltr Duffle on the Adventure rack. Be saving up the pennies for a whiile for all those though. From the MM website, it seems the SW Motech EVO racks work well with the Backcountry bags but I can't see anywhere on the SWM site that these racks fit the V Strom 800. Keen to see/hear from anyone who could share some illumination here.

Protection - I've bought radiator and engine/exhaust guards from Radguard (another fine Australian coy), but can't mount them yet becauise my bike doesn't come with that very expensive and stupid 'Accessory Tube Assembly' from Suzuki as standard. I know I'll have to get that first, but then I'll also to be able to fit crash bars and a skid plate. I'm not going to go offroading much on this bike, but I will likely be touring down a bunch of dirt/gravel roads so that stuff will come in handy. I'm thinking about maybe keepng all the gear from a single manufacturer (in this case SW Motech), in the hope that it should all work well with each other. I'd welcome any comments/observations here though. Anyway, I'll also be mounting a set of barkbusters.

Miscellaneous - Veridian Cruise control (I've gotten too used to CC on my last couple bikes, plus I get the numb hands after a while at high revs) / Comms-Nav Head Unit (Chigee or Carpuride?) / Heated grips (likely Oxford Integrated units - had them on last bike and they worked well)

So a fair bit for me to chew through. Hopefully something in there might've helped you/others by sparking an interest somewhere. Either way, I'll keep watching this thread for more perspective/intel myself.
