Alright great minds of the mighty board. I have a question that I am sure has been asked before but I shall be asking again. I have been riding since before I could read. I have had a multiple dirt bikes and I had a 1983 V65 magna for 10+ years. More recently I have been on a 2006 GSXR 750 for the last two years.

Now recently I have been considering getting an adventure tourer as my GF and I do a lot of 2up and it can get very tiring on the GSXR. So, I am considering either a Strom 650 or 1000. What do your think would be best for us. i am a pretty big guy ( 6'2" ~230 lbs) but she is on the small side (5'4" ~105). I want to be able to pack up the bike and cruise some highway miles 2 up.

Do you think I should be the V or the Wee? I am affraid that the Wee might not be enough.

Either one will be enough.

:yesnod:

The 650 has plenty of pulling power and tons of touring ability. The real question is do you want power and weight or fuel economy and less oomph.

no need to choose

hi ya,no need to choose, if you are as tall as you say go for the dl 1000 gt,i have one it took me,224lbs,good lady,130lbs and luggage 1200,miles to and from home to germany, last year, and never missed a beat being tall its the right hight for long legged blokes and petite ladys on the back, got 40 mpg,uk galls,at around 90 mph (oh god i love this bike) also took it to ireland solo, it handles better than alot of sports bikes, have grounded the pegs many times when in a hurry,it will leave a smile on your face every time you ride it, or think about it,andbess of luck with your choice as they say over there ,there aint no substitue for cubes, go for the 1000 you know it makes sense,

I have a DL650, and I'm 6'3, 200 lbs while my girlfriend is 5', 100 lbs. We usually load up the Givi E450N with a bunch of misc crap and I barely notice a difference with all the added weight. The 650 doesn't miss a beat.

I'm lucky enough to have one of each in my garage, I traded my LC1500 in for a 2007 Black DL1000 in january, after a 15 minute test ride, I knew I had to have it, I didn't have an opportunity to ride a 650, but didn't want to go down so far in displacement. Last month we sold my wife's VZ800, bought her a brand new yellow 650, she let me ride it home (in the rain.) It's a great bike, and we have been two up on the 650, 400 lbs total, and plenty of power, to be sure.... but, on my 1000, coming out of corners, or passing on the highway, That bigger motor is just.... really fun. I knew on that first ride home I made the right choice with the 1000, but I just like that blast of power and torque, with little or no action on the shifter. Having ridden the 1000 for a month or so before the 650, and being 6'1" tall, I like the higher seating on mine too, but the 650 is not cramped, just a tad shorter. If gas mileage is important, and gut wrenching torque and speed isn't, go with the 650.
