This is very embarrassing. I was going through my new-to-me 2003 DL1000 this weekend to see if the services where up to date. After I got the bike back together I found this on the floor of the garage. It's a piece of rubber. I think it's from the rear rack, but I can't find a place it fits. I had all the plastics and the tank off the bike as well as the rack. Thanks.

The seat rubber blocks have ribs and projections. That looks like a tank block that is glued on the tank to rest against the frame. It's #4 on the fiche and two are used. Take off the tank and you'll probably find one on the tank and a residue spot where the other came off.

I stand corrected...and in awe of the Master Parts Identifier.

You don't have to remove the tank, just lift it up. You'll see the position of the one still in place
at the rear on one side, and the glue mark on a flat section from the one that fell off on the other side.

I used contact cement. Tank sits on block which sits on frame rail.

Mine was missing when I bought the V-Strom. I cut down an underseat block to the right size.
Eliminated buzz and still holding after 4 summers.
