Helmet sun visor modifications

I mean the part of the helmet that equates to the bill of a baseball cap. Google doesn't seem to know this.

I have an HJC DS-X1. The sun visor is not working for me, and the sun is low in the sky this time of year here. I've tweaked the visor so it will slide forward a little more and that helped. But that tweak is maxed out now because raising the face shield would hit the visor if I went any further.

Has anyone had this problem and resolved it? Or modified a visor in general?

Glue a piece of ex ray film to the top of the face shield

I often run two strips of black electrical tape along the top edge of the face shield. Sometimes I've even run a strip along the bottom edge too for a sun blocker when the face shield is up.

All of my helmets have a strip of black electrician tape at the BOTTOM of the face shield.
You can't see it when the shield is down and when you head into that low angle sun ... 100% effective.
PS: you can remove the tape if you decide I'm not right

I have the same helmet and drilled a hole in close to the end of the slider slot, My set bolt rattled out so, I have a screw in place of it.

This still isn't perfect. I like the tape Idea too.

Thx...I got that adjustment as far as it will go without interfering with the face shield.
I also use electrical tape at the top of face shield.
For the visor, could you reshape it with a heat gun to get a little dip in the front?
I used something like this for many years. It's nothing more than a transparent automotive windshield film cut to the correct size. It sticks without glue and is easily removable for cleaning or transfer to a new shield.

If your wife has Cricut craft machine she could probably make one for you, but scissors will work.

Same helmet and I use a light tint at the top of the screen

I used these, they work. But now my last two helmets with internal sun shield.

That's something to remember when buying my next helmet.
I resisted the internal sun screen for years because you can't find one that's Snell approved; the hardware for the additional pivots and controls create a vulnerable point at the (usually) right temple area.

I eventually got one on clearance to try, and would never buy a helmet without one again; I realized my chances of crashing from being blinded by the sun far, far outweighed the additional protection a helmet without one would offer if I did crash. I bet that thing goes up and down 20 or more times on the average ride-priceless.

Plenty of good tips and tricks. My most recent helmet (Scorpion Exo something something) has the integrated sun shield and it's the best thing since sliced bread. Previous to that I wore sunglasses in the helmet, which worked but had comfort issues. I also add a strategic strip of electrical tape.

Once in a great while when the sun is low and at a certain angle, I wish I had a dark or opaque circle about 1 1/2" in diameter that I could flip down. Thinking about how to make that, one or two on each side. Works like a mini mini sun visor in a car.
thx for all the good replies
Ordered a spare visor and some 1/16" (62 thou) ABS sheet. Going to try to fab up some sort of extension. In the meantime, going to experiment a bit with electrical tape.

When I install electrical tape on a face shield I usually leave the left end an inch or so longer than the face shield and fold that end back on itself sticky side to sticky side. This provides a handle should I ever need to remove it quickly while riding.

Haven't tried it yet. I cut a piece of .062 ABS sheet and molded it by hand (gloves on lol) and pliers using a heat gun. Just a warning to anyone with the DS-X1 HJC helmet. Remove the visor and faceshield and tighten the 4 small plastic screws holding the mounts to the helmet. 2 of mine were about to come out.

The cutting of the ABS ended up with a small mounting tab, around 1/2", in the center of the visor. You can see that in the pic. Then I formed a basic shape with the heat gun and used a screw to mount the extension to the visor at the center point where the tab is, and proceeded to work the extension with the heat gun for fit and form.

Drilled a hole on each side and used pop-rivets. Then removed the screw at the center and pop-riveted that. I ground down and hammered flat the 2 side pop-rivets to keep them off the face shield when it is up. It hangs down about an inch and is al little shinier than the visor plastic. If an inch is too much, I may dremel it a little at a time. Also wondering what the new aerodynamics will be like.

Yea I'm expecting the worst.
I would have thought just extending the length of the middle mounting point so the lip of the peak could be set lower would do the same thing without the extra bulk.

Many years back I was leading a ride to my farm and I found myself many miles out ahead of all the others, I worked out I was the only one with a peak on my helmet and the only one not bothered by the sun.
