Hi there,

I've just purchased a new to me 2012 V-strom DL650 with an unbelievably low 13,000 kms on it. I've had it out for a couple of hundred highway kms and am enjoying it. I"m coming from a 98 BMW F650 carbed Funduro so this is a step up for me.

Bike has:
Givi Bags
Suzuki top case, engine protection bars and bottom fairing covering oil filter.

I"m thinking of adding a few bits and bobs but at this point I haven't safetied/had it inspected for licensing yet and I'm thinking it will be touch and go b/c of tires. Looks like original Trail Wings on there. I see that Shinko 705s appear to be a popular choice. I note that GP bikes website says that those tires don't fit this bike. What am I missing or is it an error on the website perhaps? Maybe I've selected the wrong tire? GP bikes website

Glad to be here.

Welcome to the Forum and the the Vstrom Family.
Can't really give you a recommendation on tires but I know that your choice will depend on the type of riding you plan on doing.
Will you be strictly riding on on the road or will you be doing some/any off-roading and to which extent.

Just saying Hi from Toronto area.
thanks Syz, I'd say very little offroad, mostly pavement, some gravel, fire roads, riding up a trail to get a view or down a trail to a lake that sort of thing, I do mostly long type touring trips.
Welcome from New Mexico, Johnny

I have a 2009 V-Strom and I run Shinko 705’s on it. They do fit and I find them very satisfactory.

Welcome to the forum, Johnny.

705s of the proper size should fit. Might try a different website for comparison. Personally, I prefer the Bridgestone Battlewings.

YMMV

Also try Royal Distributing,or Fortnine.Carefull on the oversized shipping charges.Royal wanted to charge me for 2 times over shipment for 2 tyres on same order(2 separate boxes)?!

I told them to strap them together,& pretend it’s one box; or put them in one box.
Or cancel order,& l’ll go down road

They put them in one box.
Welcome enjoy your new to you bike. 705s are great not so off-road but will do.
From my research and others in the Toronto area, Pete's superbike seems to have the best prices even with shipping

Canada's #1 Choice For Motorcycle Tires, Parts, Helmets & Apparel - Pete's Superbike

Also try
Revco.ca
I got my Tires from Pete's Superbike (Trailmax mission) The stock Bstones were great all arounders for me as well . Welcome!
The shinko 705s definitely fit and are cheap, but if you're going to be mostly on-pavement I wouldn't recommend them. I found them noisy and they vibrate quite a lot until you hit highway speeds. I found the Metzler Tourance Next tires very good for the sort of use you're describing. Far better on pavement, not as good as the shinko's off pavement, but still serviceable. Also consider the Bridgestone Trailwings that I believe are standard equipment on that bike. I ran two sets of them on my 13 650 with good results.
I like royal distributing, they had 705 in stock last year when Pete’s and fortnine were out and they were priced $5 cheaper.
