I want to mount up some heat trollers for my heated jacket and for the heated grips, and I'm wondering where to put them. I have a few thoughts, but want to know if anyone has ever mounted them in these locations.

Option 1. Mount both under the cowling in front of the gas tank. I'm not sure if there is enough room here, but it would be the ideal position for both, since it would be an easy reach.

Option 2. Handguards? It looks like there is room to put them on top of the factory hand-guards, but I'm not really sure this is a good way to go since I don't have handguards on at the moment and don't know how much clearence there is in there.

Option 3. Left side-cover...Not the fairing, but the cover just to the left of the instrument panel. Again, I'm not sure how much space is in there.

So where have you mounted these things. Also, how to you protect them from weather...coating in liquid electrical tape, silicon?

Seeking your opinions.

my grips are oem suzuki, the controler is designed to mount at the base of the left mirror

my gerbings heat troller is velcroed to the plastic spar that goes from the frame to the faring, when not in use, I toss it under my seat and also keep the pigtail tucked under the seat

I beleive you should keep the thermostat out in the open where it will get full effect of the ambient temperature rather than sheltered in the faring,

also no wirring to mess with or inconvenience you when your taking the plastic off or raising the tank for routine maintainence

There is a space on each side of the front tank band that can accommodate a complete controller. The handguards only have enough room for the type with the knob on a small PCB with the controller's main circuitry down the wire. Good solid state controllers run on a timer circuit with the dial setting the amount of time every second the current is passed. Cheap controllers are rheostats that waste a portion as heat in the windings. Neither has a thermostat. The smaller type is easier to work with on the front tank band, especially if running two along with a steering stabilizer. http://www.warmnsafe.com/motorcycle_coax.php

I put mine (one for gloves, one for jacket) on a small panel above the gauges. The control box is zip tied to the front of the tool area under the seat, just behind the battery. The panel also has a voltage indicating LED.

Neither has a thermostat.
you know, that explains why I am always adjusting my controller now,

the first vest I had, an Eclipse, the controller had a thermostat in it, a mechanical thermocoil, I could hear it click on and off when temps went up and down, it did have its problems, had to take it apart a couple times and renew the contacts

I just assumed the new electronic ones had a temp sensor rather than the old mechanical thing
