Been having trouble with my headlight receptacle on my fatty. Its an H4 plug, but the contacts in the receptacle do not make good contact with the bulb blades...result...lights out at 50MPH,then ya have to wiggle the harness up by the neck...PITA.

I tried to rebend or tighten the cresent connctions some last week, it helped with lowbeam but now no highbeam. Are all these plugs the same configuration? The wires come in from the back side and have a cresent or a "C" fitting allowing the blades of the H4 to fit in the gap.
Mine seem to wiggle, but the plastic is not chipped or broken.
Do ya think if I bent the blades on the H4 slightly it would increase the contact points?

Thanks it been frustrating. I put passing lamps and a necelle headlight assembly in years ago. Used crimp fitting for all the splices, after having the headlight fail, I went back in and soldered all connections and shrink wrapped...thinking I was well on my way to lighting up the night. That never corrected the issue, so I limited nighttime rides. Finnally went back in last week, took all the metal off the headlamp and plugged in the H4, then proceeded to move things around. Come to find out it was in the receptacle.
I used a jewlers screwdrivers in an effort to close the gap on the 3 "C" fittings within the reeptacle, but they are clipped into the plastic recep, so tightening was difficult as I had to use the plastic for leverage, Idid not see a release to remove them. With the bulb in, there is still a heavy 1/16" of play. I think the plastic on the recep is worn,but cannot figure how it would happen.


No sign of excessive heat visually or smell.
I've been running without an inspection for 5 years, as I don't ride it much, so the strobe kind of draws johnny laws attention on the bldv.

Prolly gonna replace the recept, but I only need a 3 wire (1 Female) "Socket" (As it appears on eastern bevers site per the 'H4 dual relay headlight kit detail")

I would have to pull out the schematics, but pretty the 97 Fatboy would have the relay...not sure as I now recall buying one somewhare and its still in the package. Can't recall why I got it though. I wonder if I could get a socket from a scrap yard, seems like any H4 socket would work...even an auto...I think my yota has the same sockets, as i upgraded the bulbs years ago due to the deer in the area..and being 30 minutes or more to any town.....
Saw 8 deer this evening on the way home from trout fishing...caught 2 natives after a days rain...creeks where up and I had to go way upstream to get to any water that was safely fishable.

It was a starter relay I purchased when I was running a low exhaust overlap cam and high compression
