Well after about 6 months of dreaming, I'm ready to take off for my first and solo moto trip. Leaving Mon am and heading NE to Cape Breton. Ive read may posts on this and vaious other forums, and decided this is the place for me. I'm planning on camping the majority of the trip, with maybe a night at the Glenora Distillery/Inn (depends how good that single malt really is!). Had to push my dates forward a couple weeks as the Provincial Parks on Cape Breton seem to button up to camping 8/10. Below I'm posting a link to my tentative route. Anyone whose been please feel free to chime in with advice/advoidances. Looking forward to an awesome trip. Just me, my machine, my tent, and my camera!!!

I'm leaving for NS Saturday morning from Boston. Will be on Cape Breton from tues. to fri. next week. Keep a lookout for a red 2012 Dl650 with about 10 bikes, mostly beemers. Small rally, but will only be with the other bikes those 3 days. Yeah, I look like my avatar. Bike will have black side cases and a top bag.

Why today rain? Why today?

So the worst possible day of the year (not including winter) to ride the Cabot Trail had to be today. And what day does my sorry ass get stuck on it? Today why did I not just wait in Sydney and ride out the storm. No, my stubborn ass says onward to Meat Cove I'll just get a cabin instead of setting up the tent. He'll no! None available. Lady at the Meat Cove lodge literally offered up her couch, but I thankfully declined and pushed on to Cheticamp where the winds are gusting at over 100kph. Maybe this thing will pass and my gear will be dry and I can ride back through clockwise tomorrow. What a day!

This is Environment Canada's forecast for Ingonish this week.Looks to be the same for the entire province.
Looks like Friday and Saturday are going to be ok.
Too bad about the weather...welcome to the Maritimes. Not sure but I think our weather comes up from Maine.:biggrinjester:
I will be at my place on the Eastern Shore(Mooseland) this weekend and can offer a place to stay, hot shower and cold beer if you are in the neighbourhood although my young fella and some of his friends plan on being there and they have been known to party hard by times.:headbang:but with a name like brew you just might fit right in?

Don't listen to NS Strommer about the WX. (no personal offense, man, it's just your source) I had to bail on my trip because of a bad knee and headed home early yesterday. Rode through heavy rain in Maine for 200 miles this morning and I'm home now. Hard rain and wind hit Nova Scotia early this morning and should be gone by tomorrow morning.

Canadian WX forecasting sucks compared to NOAA. They said today was supposed to be hunky dory in Sydney. What you had was the remnants of Isaac.

Now, 9:30PM EST:

"Canadian WX forecasting sucks compared to NOAA"

No offence taken. If I were a meteoroligist in Nova Scotia I would probably be embarrased to admit it but so far here today in Halifax the forecast is bang on.
Actually the forecasts have been fairly accurate this summer and to be fair to the weather man with NS being stuck out in the Atlantic anything can happen.

There is a saying around here."If you don't like the weather in Nova Scotia just wait 30 minutes" I think the person who coined that phrase was from the highlands of Cape Breton as the weather can be constantly changing up there.

I know, I know, I've been there 4 times (and very anxious to go back). To me, it's just frustrating trying to get accurate info when I'm there, because much of the time I have no cell signal or wifi.

Have you got a good Canada WX phone app? Finding info with the browser is tedious.

Sorry TM but when it comes to cell phones I have a very basic plan.Calls in and calls out.My kids keep telling me to get with it and get one of the new fangled I-phones and everything that goes with it.I tell them they are lucky I have a damn cell phone at all.

My wife just told me to tell you that when it comes to the weather here in NS you just wake up ,look out the window and what you see is what you get and make the best of it.(A wise woman indeed)

The next time you get back this way look me up.Always willing to meet a fellow Strommer.
Hope the knee is feeling better. I messed mine up 37 years ago and know how you feel.
It usually lets me know bad weather is on it's way well before the weatherman does.

I'm not at all done with NS. It only looks an inch long on the map, but it's huge!

And you present the problem perfectly well -- I'd love to look you and others up, but I never plan enough time -- one of the hazards of working for yourself I guess.

I will be be back next year, godwilling. :mod2_wheelchair:

One of the guys here did the trip in June from eastern Mass. 5 or 6 years ago, 5 days of fog, he didn't see anything.
