I plan to take in the car concourse there on Sunday, so will roll out of Sarasota sometime this Saturday, the 9th. Does anyone know the best route up there?
I see its abut 250 miles to Jacksonville where I''ll stay the night.

I think it's possible to cut over from Wildwood, perhaps on 301, to save distance, but I'm not sure. I suppose going Daytona and up the coast would be pretty slow going. If I get everything done on time I should have most of Saturday for the trip. The trip home Sunday night could be a little wearying. I probably won't get out of the concourse till 5 or so.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have gone near there many times.

Morrie, I recommend this route:

I-75 north to exit 358
SR-326 east to US-301 (very short link)
US-301 north to Callahan (SR 200 joins in)
SR-200 to Fernandina Beach

Going through Waldo, a notorious speed trap town on US-301,
obey the speed limit, as it changes from 55 to 45 to 55 to 45 to 55.

The mayor of Waldo has a big ass, but he is off his rocker.
(You will smile when you see the artifact that prompts the above jape.)

The Pilot station just east of I-75 at Exit 358 is a good place to stop.
Starke has lots of fast food outlets, probably whatever you want.

301 north of Exit 358 is rustic and swift; south of there it is urban & slow.

I will be riding my 250 to Daytona on Mar 8, returning Mar 10.
Probably I will use I-4 for too much of the ride; undecided right now.

Keith,

Thanks for the info. I should have notified everyone that I decided to cancel when I figured out how late i would get home Sunday. The concourse was to end at 4:30. It would probably have been midnight when I finally got back. Instead I went for a leisurely ride Sunday, but made the mistake of going south toward the Glades instead of north around Ocala where there are some actual curves. I wound up doing the same flat, straight, boring roads I've been on countless tines before. Anyway, I had some old gas in the bike and wanted to run it out of the tank so I accomplished that.

curves and more curves

Here's a nice ride, not far from home. Visit Lakeland, via:

East on Fruitville Road to its end; turn left.
North on Verna Road; turn right at Singletary Road,
which becomes Betts Road and takes you to SR-70; turn right.
(If you miss Singletary Road, turn right on SR-70 when Verna gets there).

In Myakka, go north on Wauchula Road to its end; turn right onto SR-64.
Go east about 1 mile on SR-64; turn left onto Duette Road.
Go generally north (it wiggles) on Duette to its end; turn left.
Go west on SR-62 about 2 miles; turn right onto SR-37.
Go north to Lakeland. Have a snack.
Retrace your steps.

Apologies if you knew this route already.
I used it today, southbound, coming home from Daytona.

I missed an opportunity at Bike Week. Two young ladies, wearing thongs below the waist and only paint above, were being photographed a lot, and I neglected to exhort them to "SHOW US YOUR ELBOWS"!!!

Knowing what one should have said is called, "backstairs wisdom". I have that.

You knew that already too, didn't you, you rascal?

Keith,

Thanks for the route. I'm considering a leisurely ride this weekend and will try it.

Sorry you couldn't fully enjoy the pulchritude in Daytona. I'm not very good at posting pics, but maybe this thumbnail will tide us over till something better appears,
