In a couple of weeks, I am headed south for a trip to Big Bend and Western NM.

First 4 nights, in West Texas/Big Bend
Night 5: Somewhere, Southern NM
Night 6: Somewhere just south of Grants

Can't wait to get back to my old stomping grounds in the Datil area.

Why do I look at that route and suddenly think of all the good eats along the way? ...must be getting close to dinner time.

Always wanted to see Big Bend area, post a TR when you get back.

Yeah, any ride is also about the food. In West Texas, I will be searching for the perfect enchilada plate. In New Mexico, I will be hunting for a perfect Chili Relleno.

I will be taking hundreds of pics and shooting a video. I will post a full ride report within a week of returning.

If this sounds good:

World’s Largest Green Chile Cheeseburger
20 ounce seasoned ground beef patty from our Beef Ageing Room, grilled and topped with
roasted Hatch Green Chile, creamy Mexican Ranchero cheese and a sprinkle of Pico De Gallo.
World’s Largest 22.75 Half Pounder 9.25
Split plate charge is $1.00 per person includes extra lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle

Try this:

It's right outside of Las Cruces, NM

Of course you may need a nap afterwards.

Five days and I am off on my 2,500 mile, 7 day trip.

I have decided to alter my original route and avoid El Paso. Instead I will turn north at Van Horn and head up to Cloudcroft for a night in the tent, in the pines, before heading over to Datil.....

I am stoked and ready to hit the road!!!!!

Good call on avoiding El Paso. At the remote chance you see a blue strom, gold wing, and silver vtx (probably in that order), it'll probably be us.

As you may have read, we didn't make it. After making sure our bud was relatively ok we decided to change plans and save that trip untill he could join us.

Noticed the weather was a little rough down there and had you in mind. Looks like you faired ok. Nice ride report.

Enjoyed your ride report John. Glad you headed home when you did. Saturday would have been rough. Isn't it funny how you plan and plan and then wind up flying by the seat of your pants anyway? Way to stay flexible and take your enjoyment where you can.

John, nice ride report. I would like to get down that way. Maybe next year. I think I have some time the second week in May, and might get to Moab or?
Work schedule is so fluid right now, that even planning tomorrow is not possible. By the way, who took that great pix on your blog page?:green_lol:

Yep....that pic of the boys and I gets a lot of comments. Of course it is one of my favorites and I really appreciate the photographer....

Kinda weird being home. After day three, the bike just becomes so natural and seems like it ought to be a part of daily life. Oh well, just makes me that much more hungry for the next adventure.....

MOAB.....here we come!!!!!

It is the only four-day spread where I can bail and not have to take any vacation. Remember Terry from WF2009???? The guy with the Triumph Scrambler.....He is going to join us and boys and I. Marcus my nephew might come along as well.

I have crafted a ride route that is good for Beast Bikes and will include about 200 miles of dirt over four days.

Really looking forward to it.

You will have a blast. There is so much to ride there. You can spend a lifetime, and not get it all in. Something for everyone. Are you riding over? camping? or trailering? If you need some info on routes, let me know.
