I've spent some time kinda all over the UP mostly in the winter but last fall I spent 3 days in two wheels. It was great. Be prepared for sand.

Any road up there is great. :D

The west shore and the road up and over the mountain (forgot name) is super cool. I was there a few years ago to the SCCA LakeSupProRally.

I am seriously thinking of going to that area of the UP for my annual fall run vs the Munising/Grand Marais area.

What a great ride to a beautiful part of the Country

Well my last minute trip turn into a real riding weeking.

The numbers...
Left Friday at 3pm
Home on Sunday 8:30pm
53 1/2 hours away from home

Rode a total 1008 miles

Spent 18 1/2 hours riding (34% of my time away)

GPS trip computer tells me that my moving average was 65.5 mph and a maxium of 97.4mph

All of the The Photos...

Highlights....
Michigan 35 and 41 has incredibly generous passing zones, they continue through curves and up into rises.

Meeting another rider (who responded to my post on another forum) from a long way away "HEAD". Jason, thanks for pointing out the Brockway Mountian Road, I would have just driven right by it and it was alot of fun.

Brockway Moutian road was a real roller coaster, and the view from the top is incredible.

Copper Harbor real nice little town, not Touristy at all. I met several real interesting people, including a lady who has a business on a deck. No building and completely open. She weaves on site and had her handi work for sale. She built her deck from wood reclaimed from Fort Wilkins. Her story caught my attention, and sprked me to stop at the fort. It was a nice break and easy stroll through the Historic site.

I went to the end of the road where Highway 41 starts, it turns out the route is continuous all the way to Miami. I was told by the weaver lady of a local man who in his seventies, disappeared one day. No one knew where he went. Days later he called to say he was in Miami, he drove the whole way on 41 just to see if it was true. They have the distance marked at 1990 miles.

I have a whole new appreciation at how large the Upper Penninsula is and how sparcely populated it is as well. Huge chunks of my riding time went by without seeing any other traffic or people.

I stopped for a cold drink and an asprin on my return trip to Marquette, when a gentleman walked up and asked how I like my V-Strom. He is looking into buying one but had never seen one in person. We spoke for 6 or 7 minutes and I realized that he wasn't going in to the store or getting gas and I asked if had saw my bike and turned off just to see it. He said that I passed him many miles back and kept an eye out for me, knowing I would turn off eventually.

Next time I will allow more time to explore, I did not venture off the pavement. I do not want to try off road by myself yet, yep further proof of my chickeness. I am looking foward to following an experienced rider showing the way.

Thanks for reading

Vstrom heading North to Traverse City on 10/14/06

Here is a post that I left last night if you're interested. Life Cycle of Kalamazoo, Michigan is running a group trip (Fall color tour) to the Leelaneau Sands Casino just north of Traverse City Michigan on October 14th, returning on the 15th. We'll meet at 9:00 a.m. and start heading north. Should be fun. It's a nice group of people. You can find out more by going to Life Cycles website, then clicking on events, then clicking on the date of October 14th. http://www.lifecyclemotorcycles.com/event_calendar.asp There you will find the hotel number, room rate, meeting location, etc. I've already reserved my room ($50.00). Hope to see some other Vstroms there. Cool http://www.lifecyclemotorcycles.com/event_calendar.asp
