Bought my Wee nearly a month ago, and have been riding it as much as I can to work and out for errands. Been adding a lot of things to it, customizing it for my needs, and doing all the work myself after receiving the tips I need from other members here.

Anyways, yesterday I decided to take out my Ultra Classic, which I hadn't ridden at all since getting the DL650A. Wow...what a big difference. Just could not get comfortable on it for some reason. Felt like I was sitting on the ground and the bike was H-E-A-V-Y. Couldn't do the 180 turns like I have gotten good at doing with the Vstrom. And it just felt like transportation instead of an experience.

And...hate to say this...the Ultra just wan't "fun" to ride. It was enjoyable, as all bikes are...but when I pulled it back in the garage, I didn't want to jump right back on it and go back out like I used to. I have $40K invested in the Ultra, which means the dealer would give me $6K for it if I ever sold it back to them...but the cheap Vstrom just makes me smile much more than the Harley.

Not sure if a divorce is in the future with the Ultra. but I do know that it will start gathering dust going forward. I'm only keeping it now so wife and I can two up in more comfort together...but she's not given any indications that she's eager to go out riding this year (she flip flops each year it seems, and has refused all offers up to now to do the first ride together).

If I can just get rid of the damn buffeting on the Vstrom, I'd be all set. I've tried the Madstad with stock and the MRA Vario windshield in all kinds of angles, and the wind is killing me when wearing a helmet on the bike at interstate speeds, especially coming up from underneath and wind blasting my chin bar throwing my head around like crazy). So, I'll have to figure that out, but this is the one area that the Ultra Classic shines with it's large fairing, lower fairing, and a great windshield.

But, if I get the buffeting worked out, and the bike does well on the upcoming Utah trip, the Harley will probably be finding a new home.

Suggestion. For me, I could not stand riding my '11 Wee with the stock shield.
I purchased the Givi Adjustable windshield and never looked back. It completely stopped any buffeting issues for me ( 5'8" tall, 185 #, 30" inseam).
I loved that thing, as it worked perfectly for me. You may want to look into the GIVI airflow adjustable windshield.

at the risk of being chastised for even thinking about buffeting outside of the mandated (ridiculously, i might add) thread, change the mirrors to either ktm super duke or aprilla tuono.

Does that work with the Madstad, or does the Madstad brackets get removed and the stock mounting system is used?

I may look into the Givi windshield, it's on the list to try. Just tired of buying new and selling at a loss...I'll keep me ye out for a decent used one.

As far as the wind from below, I found a tankbag seems to eliminate it for me, I guess it alters the airflow.

I find just about every bike feels HEAVY compared to my wee, my Harley, my buddies rides consisting of a '02 Concours, '99 ZRX, and heavily farkeled Vee. You may not want to rush into selling the Harley, let the newness of the V Strom pass, you may like having 2 bikes that are different from one another. Variety is the spice of life, as they say.

Never thought of that, thanks for the heads-up. I received my Givi xs308 bag Saturday and the gas tank mounting ring hopefully shows up today...so I'll throw it on the bike and ride it to work tomorrow if it does and see if that reduces the "non-sop upper cut" the wind gives me.
