any one used Green Grease to lube the chain , the other stuff I was using just didn't seem to stay on the chain and it would rust right away . on a chance I cleaned the chain then wiped the grease on the inside of the links all the way around when it was well coated I held a cloth around the chain on the back sprocket to clean off the excess. In the first 20 miles it made slight mess on the rear wheel not bad at all , I have over 2000 miles since them the chain looks great and there is very little if any mess. ps this stuff is very sticky:yesnod:

1. Grease won't penetrate the roller to bushing interface where it is needed.
2. Sticky attracts dust which makes grease a lapping compound.

You want something that penetrates when applied, protects and lubricates steel interfaces, keeps seals pliable and does not attract dust after application.

Invent something that even comes close to these specs you stated and you would never have to work again :hurray:

The Teflon spray that I use now seems to be well liked. I used a White wax spray on my Kawi and had little chain wear in 28K miles.
I put a new chain a couple thousand miles ago and used the Teflon spray. After a 17 mile dirt road excursion, cleaning the chain with WD40 took little effort.
Green grease, or grease of any sort would have attracted most of San Luis Obisbo county to the chain. That old gooey black grease spray was horrid.

DuPont Chain Saver, Liquid Performance chain lube, Bel Ray Super Clean and Boeshield T-9 all are solvent delivered for penetration and leave a dry lubricant shield behind when the solvent evaporates. There may be others too.

Tri-Flow works very well.

I use an industrial roller chain lube that meets all the requirements listed above, Schaeffer #227:
"Schaeffer's Moly Roller Chain Lube combines the penetrating action of a superior quality penetrating oil with the lubricating ability of molybdenum disulfide - the most slippery substance known. The result is a chain lube that not only penetrates and lubricates, but also will not attract dust."

#227 is impressive sounding stuff. I myself use a scottoiler but if for some reason I didn't want to use one, I would try the 227. Do you know for sure if it is OK for use with chain grease seals?

Never mind about the o-rings. Last line in the product description says it's OK.
