Sheesh, I gotta vent a little here. I just finished installing the Givi PL532 sidecase racks I bought from a fellow trooper a couple months back. I made sure to loosen the passenger pegs first, and wait until everything was together to start tightening bolts. But of course I had to muscle the racks around to get the bolt holes to line up right, and the Givi bolts are POS. What make them think allen head bolts of seemingly the softest metal available was a good idea?!? :bom_furious: What should have been a 30 minute job took 1.5 hours.

Same here. The bolts under the rear fender were a royal pain in the ass to line up.

Here's my how-to.

Step 6 is the tough one. Note that I replaced the crappy allen head bolts with real bolts. Also note the sweaty forehead in the corner of the photo.

Having a magnet on a stick to hold the nuts that go under the rack is also critical.

That's a different rack than I have, but the frustration is the same. I ended up using the stock bolts for the front ends of the strom luggage carrier, just to get it on there. I'll pick up some real bolts next time I'm at the hardware store.

Those cases look good on your bike. My Caribou cases arrived yesterday, which is what got me off my butt to install the racks.

PL532 on 2008 DL650

So I just gave up on trying to install the Givi PL532 side-mounts on my 2008 DL650. After a frustrating 2 hours I looked [closer] at the directions and the title says '03/'07. Is there a newer set of PL532's that actually fit? Has anybody else successfully installed Givi PL532's on an '08? AHHHHHH!!!!!!1

I'm thinking of cutting my losses and getting the SW-Motech side-mounts.

I'm glad you vented here. After giving up at 11:50pm, I read your post and decided to try loosening the passenger pegs which worked like a charm! Seriously the Givi bolts are POS. I hope I never have to take the mounts off because I think the threads are shot. The rear crossbar could have had stronger attachments :(

Thanks Golden Monkey

Loosening the footpegs is the key

After getting the side racks loosely attached under the carrier, I stood in disbelief as to how the hell the bolt hole for that goes behind the passenger foot peg on the left side could EVER make it. Before I started irrational attempts to force things to go where it seemed they should, I hopped online to see what others ran into here. As suggested here...loosening the footpegs made it a snap. I didn't run into the bolt threads stripping at all...but could tell they were on the soft side. Also..if you're adding the top case mount....make sure you put the brackets on the top carrier before you attach the sideracks. I would have been pissed to have to undo the whole thing....:weapons_90:

The Givi's mounted up on my 08' in less than 20 minutes including unpackaging the parts and putting away the tools...

Godfather got the good set of 532 racks. Quality control is non existent with Givi racks. I have the older set not the 532s but you are not alone. Call the Givi-USA 800 number (last time I tried it was disconnected) they act like its your fault the racks don't fit. I waited two weeks for a replacement part that was bent wrong worse than the first one. Cost fifty bucks to ship it back. The side panniers are ok but do not buy the big top box (52 liter). Its a great size but overcomplicated and will break. I have been waiting three weeks for parts from the retailer I got them from. Second go round trying get parts buy the way. Had to e-mail the first vendor after two weeks or more so they could respond that they could no longer get Givi parts. Still posted on their website that they can have them in stock. Probably will never see them. If I were you I'd rid myself of the hassle and go with another vendor. As soon as I get everything to work correctly I will off them. $1300 of frustration. Over four months of effort for racks that will never fit correctly without having to bend the snot out of them to get them to fit.

I would say no and that the set you've got is made to "fit" the 08s as well and that they haven't updated their literature.

I've got the SW-Mototech stuff and it's great!
