Ive been looking at the Givi monokey pannier racks to fit either 20mm cans or pelican 1550 to. I know the bottom has those two pims welded on. I was curious if that monokey piramid at the top could be removed?

I have the pre-2012 rack, so I don't know if this helps.

On mine, the bottom pins are actually attached with bolts, they are easily removable. They leave two very small threaded "tangs" but may be perfect for screwing your new cases into.

The top pyramid is also attached with bolts, easily removable, and leaves a nice plate with 2 holes, again, useful for mounting generic cases.

The GIVI rack is a good deal, I'm pleased with it over the SW Motech rack (though I've never owned one of those). There are a few reasons
  • The quick release mechanism on the SW Motech scares me for security reasons, I don't think they are keyed.
  • The SW Motech looks heavier
  • SW Motech has oval structure, the GIVI is round
  • The GIVI leaves less wasted space, it holds very close to the bike, the exhaust side actually scares me a bit, it's really close, maybe 1/4 inch of clearance, and made me discard my idea to use a puck mounting quick release system in lieu of a permanent attachment to the GIVI rack screws and holes.
  • The left side leaves ample room for a tool tube.
Will post pics.

Mine is a permanent rack, all I see is part number PL532.

It looks like the parts are definitely different for 2012+, sorry I misunderstood your post.

I went with the pl (not quick release) and the e36 cases. Cost was about the same for the pelicans but didnt want to have to deal with mod work
