I'm new to Stromtrooper and owning a V-Strom. Bought a 2008, matte black 650 about a month ago and am almost ready for my 600 mile service.

I ordered a GIVI E52 case with a light already built in. Got the mounting hardware too. Should be in later this week.

Not being too technically inclined and very concerned about hurting my new bike, is this something I should tackle on my own? I believe I'll have to do some drilling? That's not bad but I want to connect the wiring properly.

Any tips would be helpful.

It took you a *month* to hit 600 miles? I hit it in the same day on my 08!

The case mount isn't difficult- it comes with a bracket and bolts. No drilling necessary, though you'll have to pull off the rubber "mat" on top of the rear rack.

If you want to hook up the brake light, it's a little more complicated. You have to pop out a tab on the Givi plate to install the connector, then drill through the black plastic under the rear rack to feed the wiring through. That gets crimped to the brake light wire, which is approximately where you just drilled.

There may be an easier way, but in the past we've unbolted that flat black rear fender section to get to the wires a little easier.

You can also run the wire along the right side of the bike to just in front of the right turn signal. There is a little notch in the side of the plastic that lets you run the wire into the seat area without needing to drill holes or cut anything on the bike.

Hooking up to the brake light will be tricky but can be done without unbolting anything. Undo one or both of the brake light bulbs to give you a bit of slack in the wire.

Many, you must have X-ray vision and the tiniest hands if you managed that. My hat's off to you. I gave up on that route and just took the rear rack and fender off - it comes off relatively easily. The only difficult bolt is the one hiding behind the muffler. I ground down the short end of an Allen wrench to get it to work in the limited space available and that did the trick for me. Was very easy to do the wiring once the fender was off. Plus I also took the opportunity to replace my stock rear signals with Buell flashers at the same time which called for a bunch more re-wiring in that tight little space.

Regardless of what surgical approach you use to expose the brake wires, I recommend using a Posi-Tap to splice into the wires. It will be a much stronger and longer lasting connection compared to using the Givi splicers that come with the kit.

Still I manged to do it.. I didn't see how to get the fender off.

givi light kit wiring install

anybody have pictures of the wiring install with and without the rear fender on?

I am trying to install mine also.
