Last Saturday went for a ride to Newnes NSW via Wolgan Rd, Wolgen Valley.

Leaving a private property at Wolgan Valley near Newnes, heading towards main gate on the flowing 4WD tracks. Getting cocky trying to spin the rear wheel in mud ruts and as we were nearing the gate I went to change rut as I though I would take over the rut my brother was following and took a spill. Back wheel went quick and the bike fell on the left side. - 4:30 into video.

Not a big drop, just a slide to the left. I shut the engine immediately and picked the bike up. The ground was pretty soft and this prevented a hard impact but even so the GIVI Crash Bars,Suzuki handguards and centre stand all did an excellent job of preventing any damage. Bike suffered no damage at all. :thumbup:

Looking back, the bike would have hit the bodywork and tank hard if it wasn't for the Givi crash bars. Also the OEM centre stand and rear passenger foot peg mount provided good protection as well. Apart from the hand guard and clutch mount twisting there was no damage to the clutch at all.

After clearing the dirt out and readjusting the lever mount, hand guard and mirror I was able to continue the 3 hour journey home without any issues.

I know it wasn't really a big drop, but the piece of mind offered by the crash bars makes them a must accessory on the V-strom. Like a skid plate, any riders who do any Adventure riding should make sure to have crash bars fitted. :yesnod:

I had a brain fart moment doing 5 k an hour and braked in a puddle of mud, front slipped out from under me, apparently I broke an engine bolt which also goes through the engine bar. hrmm

Glad that they worked and the bike is safe!

That reminds me, I have posted a question about the givi crash bars on your blog but you guys didnt respond and its still awaiting moderation.

I reposted the question again, havent checked if that one is also still awaiting moderation.

I basically wanted to get you guys feedback on the givi crashbars between the old and new model. I think I have the old model sitting in the box.

But seriously, I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Have had no issues with vibrations on the TN532, but my mate with the TN3101 installed on his bike has had no issues either.

The main difference is the TN3101 come out a touch further near the bashplate/undercowl area, I believe this was to clear the plastic OEM Suzuki cowl that came standard on the adventure model.

Have had the TN532 installed on the bike for over a year and many thousands of km’s and no issues, so I wouldn’t bother going through the hassle to get the new ones.

You guys really went all out on your bikes. You have made me spend quite a few dollars LOL. I read about it on your blog and then I need to order it LOL.

I am considering the clear covers for the turn signals but I am not sure I can justify the price. It def looks great on the white strom though, but for front and back I think its like $70 shipped to the USA. Kind of pricey for a few pieces of plastic.

Glad to hear of the Givi bars success!

I've got the TN532s as well, and don't see any reason to go to the 3101 (and I just recently put them on).
This is the difference, for anyone interested. The 3101 does seem to be better suited to clear the OEM skid plate, but it also looks like it has a cross-brace which might give it a bit more strength (although it could also represent additional stress points on the addtl. welds). 6 of one...

You're right about the price problem but I just couldn't resist and got clear turn signals and clear (LED) licence plate light with additional brake light (cheap chinese thing) for my white Glee.

Newnes is dangerous LOL

A while back I dumped my 09 Wee on the road into Newnes at about 80kph it did not fair to badly, the old style Givi on the right side bent back to the plastic and the gravel built up behind the bar and marked the paint, a small ding in the left side of the tank that I think was from the toe of my left boot and a front right blinker, the Teflon tape saved my leavers and mirrors.

I had a hell of a time trying to pull the bar back out and still can figure out why I crashed, inattention I think ?

Was this when the road was mostly dirt/gravel. I was surprised how much of the road was now a full on tar road with lines and crash barriers. Would make a hard landing now.

I guess having a world class resort near the end of the road made the road upgrade inevitable. Funny how the road goes back to dirt just after the resort entrance.

We were lucky enough to get an invite to a 1200 hectare private property as seen in the video. All that space makes one get a bit exuberant :biggrinjester:

My Givi's have saved me at least 3 fairing replacements ......on and off road, snow and mud.....

I did learn early to get flush mount front signals though....

Yes the resort paid for the up grade (there is a reason behind it) and it is a good job too, no short cuts, great to wipe off the chicken strips.

My mate has a small block down there and another at Capertee so we use them as a base to get out and about and explore this great country.

I also am very satisfied with givi crash bars. I low sided at about 25 mph on an entrance ramp. Bike made 2 complete circles on the right side. The pics show all the damage. That was it, no body damage at all. I sanded down the bars and foot peg and painted them flat black. All is good now. Wish I could say the same for my jacket and pants.
