Please help me clear the confusion.
This is about Non-ABS 2009 DL650.

The service manual pictures the connector behind left rear frame cover, and it looks like it's a 4 pin connector with one pin unused.

Multiple references (here, on vstrom.info and on some gear indicator product sites) seem to refer to a 3 pin connector.

What kind of connector it is, and where it is truly located?

Blue, pink and black with a white stripe are the wire colors to look for. It's at the front under the left side cover, about even with the top of the shock according to the picture in the manual.
