I'm trying to plan out some electrical solutions on my Vee. I already have a AP-2 fuseblock (w/ relay that provided switched & powered ports) installed with a few items (heated grips, stebel horn, battery tender & 2 powerlet ports) already attached. I am currently planning on adding a couple of things in the future:

Battery Monitor (little LED that gives real-time battery status)
Radar Detector
GPS

And,

The Powerlet ports are not currently being used. In the future I would like to connect a heated vest to one & a cell phone charger & iPod charger to the other.

There aren't enough ports on the AP-2 to house all these accesories so I am going to have to double up on a couple. The question is how to manage the fuses. Here are the values I've come up with as far as amperage:

Horn= 30A
Grips= 3A
Radar= 2A
GPS= 2A
Vest= 5A
Cell Phone = ?
iPod = ?

My fusebox plan is attached.

Two questions:

1. Are the fuse values adequate?
2. Should I have in-line fuses as well?

The fuses are to protect the wiring. Low current devices like the Radar, GPS, cell phone and Ipod can all be run off the same feed easily. A 16 gauge wire with a 10 amp fuse will do nicely. A 20 amp fuse and 14 gauge wire is best for the horn although some people are happy with a 15 amp fuse and 16 gauge wire. The horn can draw 13A and lose a little volume with 16ga wire. You can only keep the 30A fuse if you are running 10ga wire. A 5A fuse and 18ga wire are common for the grips with a 10A fuse and 16ga wire preferred for vest or jacket use. If your wire size is adequate, you can up the fuse size a bit on the heated gear but what you have listed probably won't be a problem. You already have the wiring fused at the fuse block so inline fuses would be redundant.

My question is this: on the AP-2 there are 3 sets of 2 ports that share the same fuse. If I run the Radar, GPS, cell phone and Ipod on one port and say the heated grips on the other would I need to use a 15A fuse in that spot (Radar, GPS, cell phone and Ipod-10a + Grips-5A = 15A)?

Take a look at the attached file above if that's confusing.

I got the Eastern Beaver Horn relay and it's 14ga - so I guess I should be using a 20A fuse? I thought I heard that the horn could draw more current than that.

You're missing the fact that the fuse is matched to the wire size and the wire just needs to be large enough to handle the total load on it. You're trying to match the fuse to the device and forgetting about the wire. A 30A fuse is too large for a 14ga wire for example. If you use 16ga wire for all the devices except the horn, you could put 15A fuses in all the circuits except the horn if you wanted to.

Ah, the lighbulb goes on. Yes, I was trying to match the fuse to the device.

So, if I've got this correct, for devices using:

14Ga wire, use up to a 20A Fuse
16Ga wire, use up to a 15A Fuse
18Ga wire, use up to a 10A Fuse

Right. The fuse block itself would be connected to the battery with a 10ga wire and a 30A inline fuse for example. Bundling wires involves more heat so there are different fuse ratings depending on whether a wire is enclosed, bundled, or open to cooling air and wire size for a specific current also depends on length of run but you ought to be safe with those values. Those wire sizes are a little lighter than would be specified for house wiring but the run length on a bike is a lot shorter. More length means more resistance and more heat.
