Is there a favorite way of turning the front signals into always-on running lights (except when signaling)?

I have these "Run-n-lites" on my BMW, but they only seem to make them for BMWs. Work great though.

I had a Kisan Signalminder on my SV, but it leaves the rear blinkers in always-on (dim) mode too - no way to just hook to the fronts.

The way I did it was to replace the stock turn signals (once the bike's been tipped over, the stockers are gone anyway...) with aftermarket ones that have a twin-filament bulb, and then wire the running light portion into the unused H4 socket left over from putting on a relay kit on the headlights.

You can buy twin contact sockets at an auto parts store to replace the stock ones, put in 1157 bulbs, run the third wire (running light), and you have running lights then. I'd be more concerned about doing the rears though, the strom has bright headlights so in my mind it's the rear end that needs more lights. The other solution for the front: I have some flush mount dual filament lights ready to go on when I get around to it.

PS: haven't tried this socket mod on the strom, but I know it's been done on other bikes.

For the rear, Cyclegadgets.com (one of my favorite gadget stores) has an LED license plate frame with two rows of red LEDs (above & below) that run always-on low, and bright when you brake. I have one on my SV and love it.

Couple that with a brake light modulator (I insist on the "flashes a few times then goes solid" kind, so as not to make the guy behind me hate motorcycles :)) and I think you'll be in pretty good shape.

Yes, well...since I have yet to posess my Wee (I'm picking it up Tuesday), let me say that I've already got a fark-list as long as my arm. The Cyclegadgets part of it alone reads something like:
- Back-off LED license plate frame
- Back-off Brake Light Module XP (IF they can get it at CG - otherwise I'll go elsewhere)
- Centech fuse block
- Power lead for my GPS176c (it's old but it has a huge color screen)
- Weatherproof box for my Valentine One radar detector
- Powerlet power jack (actually I was thinking it'd be cool to run power to one of my Happy Trails panniers when I get 'em - I could mount a jack in the pannier for my vest, and plug the pannier into the jack on the bike. Then I could charge cell phones, iPods, etc. in the pannier if necessary)
- Helmet Guardian helmet lock thingys for the license plate
- RAM mounts for GPS & radar (unless i get a shelf for the radar)

And if I'm feeling really crazy, the Kisan ChargeGuard battery monitor/thermometer, and Autoswitch garage door trigger

I just paid Dan Vesel for my radiator guard/oil cooler guard combo (a steal at $50 plus shipping).

That leaves the fenda extenda, some kind of big tank bag, the Happy Trails cans, Hotgrips if the factory heated grips can't be made to get warm, Kaoko throttle lock, and the running light issue that started this whole thread.

And THEN...if/when Electrosport comes out with a beefed-up stator for this bike, I'll see about adding some driving lights. Otherwise I don't think it's going to handle vest plus grips plus lights.

That oughta do it

Cycle gadgets is a good store. I get all my RAM stuff from them.

I sure wish Brake! made a LED tail/stop module for this bike. Those things are incredible.

Is there a place by the fairing to grap switched power for grips? If not then I'll go with a fuse block (blue sea or centech) and run it off a relay energized by the tail circuit or whatever. But, I need always hot power for GPS, compressor, radar... it never ends with these bikes!
