Front fender extender

My wee is a 2012 650 with a fender extender installed since I bought it. It really bugs me that the extender is not installed nicely, since I am kind of a technical geek and also DIYer... I ride mostly on road and the fender is normally not covered with dirt, so this really bothers me.

I would like to remove the fender extender, but there will be holes left in the fender. Do you think that it is possible for me to cut the fender in a nice line with a grinder tool, so creating a new shape of fender finish?

I would shorten the fender just like a 1 cm, but I would narrow it a bit to bypass the upper holes.

I know I can do this, but what are the chances that the result will look ok? Can the edge be nicely polished so that this will look nice like the original, or will the cut part burn or melt because of the grinder and edge-sanding?

If visually bothering, drill rivets, scrape the silicone, remove extension or reassemble properly. I would not cut the fender at the sides, as it could structurally become less resistant at high speed. I'd rather live with the holes, or even better, plug new black rivets in their place once fender removed. This being said, I would have bought a new fender but OEM prices have gone quite up, ca. 50EUR for the 3rd phase.

The problem is that at least one of the holes is not a hole anymore because the plastic cracked between a hole and the outside border

Yes, use a coping saw or other fine-toothed manual saw, then finish with progressively finer sanding blocks. Any grinding, including even a Dremel tool will melt it.

Thanks for you offer. I am located in Europe, so this is a little too far away, and also I would like to try correcting mine first. Of course, buying used one is always an alternative if my DIY project will go bad

$85 for 2012, which seems to be same serial number as for 2017, which is phase 3. I bought mine (2021), today costs $67, less than 60EUR. Talk to your local Suzuki dealer, if they can get you a better price.

Really good advice! I talked with them and the original fender based on my bike's VIN number is less then 100 EUR, shipped. That's local - no additional taxes, original Suzuki and new. I didn't think that that is so affordable product. Will go and grab this deal. Thank you again
