Picked up a brand new '18 650 and have been hearing a metal rattle while in the lower end of a 2nd gear. It was this darn plate (see pic) that wasn't tightened properly (took a while to figure it out so sharing in case anyone else has a similar issue).

Suzuki says to tighten to 10N-m, 7.5lb/ft. Possibly left undone following the fuel pump o-ring recall. Better give it a good going over to be sure nothing else got left loose. DD

I had a rattle that I could hear on my GoPro audio. Couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Eventually found the rubber grommet under that plastic cover was gone so the cover was rattling against that bracket. Who knows where that stupid grommet went...

Thank you very much for this! Yes they confirmed a recall on the o-ring was done.
The front axle pinch bolt was also barely screwed in. I'll call them with a few well crafted words tomorrow and drop the bike off at my trusted mechanic for the first service. Lesson learned to check and double check myself.

I have similar horror stories about my service to get the oring recall done. Stupid tech put stuff together
backwards and left loose. I rode the bike home only to have to take it right back to the dealer to be fixed
again. They had to take parts from a new showroom bike to replace the ones this A hole screwed up.

He no longer works there. My dealership is absolutely terrible. When my extended warranty is done
I'll be doing all the service work myself.

I really hate to hear this kind of stuff, as I spent some years as a dealership mechanic. I really want them to be better, but there just aren't any guarantees anymore when you take your bike in for service. Nobody's perfect, I'm certainly not even close, but it seems we worked harder to get it right. There is simply no excuse for not following factory procedure. Also no excuse for the service manager not overseeing his techs.

I had a lengthy discussion with the service manager at my dealer regarding this recall. I don't want somebody doing this work on my bike knowing they're under the gun to get it done at flat rate. I even asked if I could just take the tank in, no dice. I'm going to buy the kit and do it myself, and keep throwing the recall notices away. I've got all day and a clean padded work area. No sign of leakage anyway.

I'm glad you caught this screwup before you got hurt. If you don't already work on your own stuff, this might be a good time to start. Make a habit of checking critical fasteners. Enjoy your new bike. DD

In my case the service manager was involved in the re-repair the second time around.
Because when I explained to him on the phone what I found when I took the seat off he
fired the tech that worked on my bike.

The rear rubber Isolator for the tank mount was never installed and was stuffed down on top of the battery.
Rear tank bolt loose.

The front bracket that holds the tank down with 2 smaller bolts was installed backwards and 1 of the bolts
was completely broken in 2 pieces. It had to have an easy out to get the thread area out.

Second time around I watched everything they did for the entire hour the bike was in the shop.
They knew I was pissed. After - Everything was fine- no issues since.

Purchased my bike new in 2016. On the second short ride I came to a stop and the front brakes felt soft. Then the RT brake caliper fell off. Yep, one bolt missing and the other fell on the ground right there at the intersection. Good thing it didn't happen when I really needed the brakes. Went back to the dealer and we had a conversation. They said 10 days for new bolts. I said go to the warehouse and pull the bolts from another new bike. I went home with the bolts. I got out my torque wrench and checked all critical fasteners.
