Your legs may like forward controls, but your back will hate them.
Ive rode with forward controls for MANY years LOLYour legs may like forward controls, but your back will hate them.
Griz, if you live near a motorcycle salvage company you could do well to take your tape measure there and look for a whole system for both sides that will occupy the same sized space you need. Any brand of a "metric cruiser" will do. Ideally one with matching shaft splines will be a big bonus. Then having a complete system, your mission gets reduced to fab'n up a way to mount it. Don't be deterredNew to this forum but just ended up with a 2002 DL1000. As my 70 year old legs are not limber anymore Im looking for forward controls ? Many net searches have told me no one produces them BUT Im a decent fab guy and mechanic if anyone would share their homebrew designs ??
Go ahead and say it..... a 70 year old dont belong on a Strom LOL But I got it on a trade and wanna explore this bike![]()
only thing that may deterr me is running outta beer LOL no salvage for M/C near me but have found some cheaper forward controls for other metric bikes on the ole amazon so could use the pedals levers pivots etcGriz, if you live near a motorcycle salvage company you could do well to take your tape measure there and look for a whole system for both sides that will occupy the same sized space you need. yea last bike was a Intruder that I put FC's on------just took the DL1000 up on the lift, removed the plastics and got a good look at the operation of controls-----some 3/8 steel plate, some welding and extended rods should get me where I wanna be------this DL1000 was somewhat neglected so Im going over the complete bike while its on the liftNot knocking it and would like to see you succeed. The Honda CTX is one to look at for ideas.
There is also a group that helps modify bikes for folks with disabilities called THE BIKE EXPERIENCE. They may have some ideas.
Wondering if you got parts from a Suzuki cruiser may make it a little easier I just put highway pegs on my Strom to stretch out on long rides and works fairly well.
