Well it has been pretty quiet here on the Northwest forum, so I thought I would post up a ride report. It is late September, I've owned my V-strom 3 months, and my plans to do a 4 day weekend tour every month have not materialized. I've had some good long day rides, especially the Whiskey Jack's ride in August, but no over nighters.

The opportunity arose this week as I needed to be in Spokane for a day.

Nominal distance from Seattle to Spokane is 275 miles. I took the long way there, following Route 2 with a couple detours from the Destination Highways book, bringing the mileage to about 400 for the day.

As I approached Spokane it became apparent my headlights were not working. Checked bulbs and fuses, that wasn't it. I made it to my hotel without mishap. A post to the forum and some amazingly quick responses from fellow Stromtroopers clued me in to the starter switch issue so I was able to get the headlights going again in time for the return trip on Wednesday.

For a long time, I have wanted to ride Route 20 across the state and over the North Cascades Highway, so that was my return route, north out of Spokane on 395 to Kettle Falls, and onto Route 20. Despite rainy conditions, I am glad I did it. Traffic was very light, and I must say, the Wee is a very sure-footed machine. The road is pure motorcycle heaven, especially with the light traffic. Ride time right around 9 hours, 11 with a couple rest stops.

After this trip, I can really see why the Wee has such a loyal following. It is ugly, and it sounds like a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower, but it flat out works.

Many of us have this installed.

Vstrom travel disease

Be careful or you will catch the dreaded disease. I'm an old grey dude who is seriously afflicted and have ridden my Vee to all 10 provinces and 42 states.

Sounds like a lawnmower?
My previous bike was an LS650 (650 single)...... you wanna talk about sounding like a lawnmower. Stock muffler might as well have SAID briggs on it. lol

Hwy 20 North Cascades Highway is beautiful but watch your speed. It's well known for speed traps. I was written for 5 over. In addition, the attitude was like I had just robbed a bank; puffed up type A. I guess he didn't like that I found it funny he was hiding behind a sign which I consider CS.

I have a new in the box switch housing for your bike. Would have to check current prices, but would be willing to sell it for less than any online store. PM me if interested in it.

Sir, you are one state ahead of me, so I will need to address that
deficit very soon. I hope to see you at another Ontario ride in 2015,
but this is a Washington thread, so let's get some local content.

Pullshocks, consider going north the next time you seek a route homeward
from Spokane. I rode through lovely mountains, and past the Grand Coulee
Dam on the Columbia River. My destination was Vancouver BC, not your
lovely city of the same name, so I continued north through Omak and went
into Canada at Osoyoos BC.

Oddest question of the trip: "Why did you choose
THIS location to cross the border, sir?"

Some ideas occurred to me:
I figured the rubes in this burg would like to see some wheelies.
I hoped to find someone who didn't know pot from oregano.

I replied, "I am taking scenic routes, and I know Osoyoos
is the prettiest city in all of British Columbia."
