FI warnings

Hi all. I just joined your forum and have my first post. I'm getting intermittent FI warnings on the display of my 2012 650A. At 14K miles and 10 years flawless riding I did a service including air filter (installed correct side up), coolant and spark plug (properly gapped) changes. The plugs are a different brand than were fitted at the factory, but were supplied by the dealership and are what the owner's manual specifies. All seemed fine while I fully warmed the bike up to circulate coolant. Engine temperature gauge showed normal and expansion tank settled at proper level.

The following day on the first ride since the service, 5 minutes from home, the FI warnings appeared, with no change in the bike's performance. I returned home and lifted the rear of the fuel tank and re-routed the two smaller hoses attached to the rear of the tank to minimize bends, but didn't disturb the fuel line or the wiring harness. Afterwards, I rode for 30 minutes and no FI warnings appeared. Same good performance.

A week later on the second ride, 5 minutes from home, the warnings appeared again. Again, no change in performance.

I don't own a code reader, and wonder what you all think I could have inadvertently done wrong to cause this. What things can I check? I don't have a fuel leak and the fuel gauge works as always, but I plan to reconnect the fuel line and wiring harness.

This was routine maintenance. I'm stumped.

Thanks all. Any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated.

Search for dealer mode, don't know how to for your year.
Yeah, a paperclip and possibly a spare key is all you need to put the bike in dealer mode and get a readout of what's causing the FI light. This code will help you narrow down the problem considerably.
Backpackers reason for the spare key is because turning off the engine will cancel the FI code - so you must read it before switching off.

Thank you for the code list. But I'm afraid I don't understand how to use a paperclip, spare key, or get to dealer mode. Does the information show up on the motorcycle's display? Do you have a more detailed description how to get codes? I've never gone through that procedure. I'd appreciate more detail when you get the time.
As always, thanks so much!
All V-Stroms are similar but look to the last post in the link below for your plug. The two RH terminals need to be bridged with a piece of wire or even a paper clip. The bridge can be left in place if you wish and you will immediately while riding see the fault code on your dash when FI comes on.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I've got something else to do today, but I'll try to get a code to display and take the appropriate steps to correct. I'll report back when I have a result. Thanks again.

Question: My bike doesn't show any warnings, but, if I put it in dealer mode would it show me codes that I might not even be aware of and/or past codes that came up?
Nope. Once you turn off the ignition any dashboard readable codes disappear. You would need to connect a code reader.
