Lately, I've made some changes to my '06 Wee due to age and also to make improvements. The battery has been swapped to a Shorai LFX18 unit that shaves off about 5 lbs, an Akrapovic slip-on which eleminates another 11 pounds or so, replaced the sprockets and chain, removed and cleaned the rear shock that I also adjusted with full preload and stiffened the rebound about a 1/4 turn. The difference is enormous!! Along with a new smoothness from the new chain and sprockets, the handling is improved noticeably. BTW...installed a front fork Superbrace months ago). I'm wondering if the weight loss is significant enough to make such a dramatic difference in the overall feel of the bike? Perhaps, because the stock muffler weight was carried so high on the bike, and now it's gone, that this affected the handling so much? Now that I mention the weight being carried high, the lead-acid battery's weight was carried high as well. A 16-18 pound reduction in the high-center-of-gravity has enhanced the handling of this motorcyle and has REALLY upped the enjoyment factor significantly. I made the changes on the sly without telling my Sweetheart and when I took her for a 54 mile ride, she asked me why the bike sounds and feels so different from the last time we rode together. When I asked her what was different, she thought for several seconds and then said the bike seems 'newer'. It's possible that she spied the sparkling new RK gold chain. She lives 220 miles away so we are together here for about one week per month. I deliberately didn't tell her about the changes just to see if she could tell something was different. To hide the new exhaust, I placed the bike closer to the garage wall on the right side so she couldn't get a look at it before hopping on, otherwise, she would have seen the carbon fiber muffler. Of course she asked why it is louder so I just told I did 'some work'. Next on my agenda is to add an Elka 3-way with remote pre-load adjuster shock, fork tear down and rebuild with intiminators, progressive rate springs, and 5W Bel-Ray fluid along with new seals.
