I have a lathe (6x10), and was thinking of making fog lights using halogen reflector lamps and machining the lamp holder from chunk of aluminum. I purchased some ABS drain pipe fittings to machine a mock up. The pictures are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sniderj/sets/72157606067232600/ . The fittings are a 2" to 1.5" reducer, with a 1.5" dishwasher fitting to 1/2 female threads, a 3/4" end plug, threaded rod for a house lamp, and a 1" clamp for conduit. As the halogen bulbs would have melted the plastic, the bulbs were tapped (lightly on the leads) out of the reflectors, and a 10mm LED silicone RTV'ed in their place. (eBay 10mm 140000 mcd led). The white LEDs have a bluish tint and look like fog lamps. The ABS looks like anodized billet aluminum, (as I didn't sand them after machining),and I may just leave them as is.

They look fine as is...very clean fabrication and install. Do you know that yellowish light penetrates fog better than white or blue/white light?
