I'm looking to purchase a Vstrom and I found one close by that I am going to go look at. It's a 2005 DL650 with 14,453 miles on it. One owner and completely stock. It looks to be fairly clean, and the only thing he claims it needs is new tires. He's asking $2,750, but I think that seems high since KBB Retail is $2,820. What would be a fair price on this bike? Thanks for your advice!

I suggest that you google as many of the bike 4 sale websites in your area and make a list the extras that are included with the asking price vs year model, so that your research is more accurate. On this site, if memory my serves me, there have been suggestions of around $1,300 as being more in line for a K4 / K5 Wee. But that will depend on the area that you are located. There were also suggestions that one consider a trip to another state if necessary to get your bike of your choice and bond by ride it home.
I'm positive that you will find the answer to your question by doing the suggested research on that model. Test ride and even better still take someone with more biking knowledge with you offer advice before you buy.
Don't be afraid to offer a lower price. Also don't be in a rush. Good luck.

2005 dl650

I just purchased an 05 DL650 for $2500 in Dec. Had 18,500 miles on it when I got it. Came with Panniers and a Bestem top case, plus some additional items. The right front fender had some scrapes in it but I found a replacement on ebay for $50.00. All in all so far very happy with it. Just took it for a nice ride today on Florida Gulf coast.

I got a 08 for $2550, well farkled too. Mine was a killer deal but I still believe that yours is a little overpriced. Before buying mine I ran an ANOVA on 350+ bikes on the used market to estimate what is a good deal and what is not. I put in the numbers in my excel for your bike and it comes out as a "decent deal". To be in "great deals" territory it should be around $2000, or at least have some good accessories. Mind that this is not always possible, I waited a long time before getting mine.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I'm going to go look at it and if I like it, I'll see what he'll do on the price. It does not have any accessories and it needs tires, so he is going to have to move on his price for me to buy it.

KBB says $2800 and he's asking $2700, what's the problem? If the bike is clean go for it.
I got mine, an 04 at KBB when i bought it many years ago. I wasn't going to quibble about a couple hundred bucks.
Do you get way over KBB when you see some old bike?

I think 2k would be reasonable (in our area) since it has no farkles and needs tires (and what else?). How about chain and sprockets. Probably still has the original chain, so that's another $150-200 to spend in the nearer future.

Given its age it needs all new fluids, I bet you they have not been changed.

Valves check needs done, unless the current owner has proof it has been done (unlikely, first check is due at 15k)

Better check it out carefully. The low mileage is not really a benefit, because the current owner may not have done any maintenance other than oil changes. Its still a 13 year old bike. Nothing wrong with that but maintenance needs to be done as if it were a 45k bike.

go over and pull out $2200 cash, see what happens.
I had a low mileage '05 Wee that looked like new. It was perfect, great tires, brakes, well cared for, all services, etc. Had someone pulled out $2200 cash to buy it I would have thanked them for giving me a good laugh and then sent them on their way. I got well over that on a trade in plus got the new bike discounted well below list before the trade in offer. If the bike is really clean its worth more than $2200. But then, if they will let it go for that then do it.
