Hi guys i own a Vstrom 650 and i have a problem..
I installed givi engine guards at my bike when i bought it..Both left and right bars are tightened by torque wrench..
After some miles the right upper joint of the right bar just broke,so the bar was kept in place only by the other two joints..

I removed the right bar and gave it to the dealer who replaced it to me under warranty...

After some more miles it broke again at the same point. What should i do?The dealer claims that i have not fit it properly..Do you think my bike has some kind of problem or sth??Looking forward for your replies... :( :(

I'd sooner argue that if the bar will break from normal wear-and-tear, how likely is it to protect the bike during a fall...

I'm sure Givi adheres to strict standards when fabricating their parts...perhaps there is an issue with the bike's frame?

I wasn't too impressed with their luggage racks. They seemed to be welded competently but were not even close to correctly fitting the mount points on the bike.

How well did the crash bars fit up when installing?

Givi have had problems with their DL650 engine bars cracking through vibration. They have redesigned the bars and now only manufacture the modified version.

Contact Givi and tell them your problem and the contact details of your dealer. They can then contact your dealer and arrange for you to be given a free set of the modified bars.

It a natural harmonic frequency problem.

Richard, 1st thing, you live in the greatest city in the world mate...I loved Cairns so much I almost didn't leave. As it was I bought a Landcruiser there on auction and had it crated back to Canada....but I digress.

I can't imagine the sort of vibration that would cause properly welded mild steel to fracture would exist on a motorcycle, perhaps a helicopter or aircraft engine mount. without analyzing the piece, I would hazard a guess that the failure is due to very poor weld penetration...in other words, Givi needs to re-train their assembly workers, something is not right.

In any case, there is nothing wrong with this fellow's bike, send the bars back again and demand yet another set.

Broken weld

I bought a less than year-old DL1000 that already had the Givi engine bars installed. After a few months I noticed that the left upper joint was broken. I thought maybe the bike was dropped and the seller never told me (why would he I guess  ) . Havent done anything about it so far but just thought id mention it. Seems to be a common problem.
