Like a few other owners, I bought and fitted the Givi engine bars after tipping off the other month. Didn't think a lot of the finish or fit, actually, but hey. Having ridden with them on, I couldn't believe the increase in vibration they caused. since I get on really well with the retailer in Leicester, I e-mailed both Givi UK and the retailer to ask about sending them back, stating that I was not alone, referring them to this site, etc.
I got prompt replies from both, inviting me to return the bars for refund, and I've just received the refund by post. Moral - complain, but be fair; it's worth it.
I read the posts from folks that had fitted the SW-Motech bars, and they all seemed to be favourable, so I ordered a set of these. Took a while to come, but arrived last Friday, and fitted today. Fit is very simple, finish much better than the Givi ones. They're also not not so big and ugly. Vibration I don't know about yet, 'cos it's f***ing freezing here at the moment, so it can wait for warmth! :?
On another topic, what tyre are you all using for road work? I'm not too impressed with the Trailwings, and I wonder if some BT020's would suit better?
See you, Simon.

Others have reported this vibration although more with a 650? They use the engine mounts so torque can effect vibration. I installed a set of givi bars last week and have been very happy with them. I twisted the hell out of an allen wrench getting the bolts out and then used a ratcheting tie down to pull the two sides together in the front at the spacer and was able to fully snug the front bolt. For me the fit works well andthe black finish is excellent and I haven't noticed any vibe changes. Obviously your experience was different. Come try mine and I'll try yours, for a couple weeks.

DL650 or DL1000?

Simon, it would be useful to say what bike you have... is it a DL650 or a DL1000?

Thanks!

MY Givi engine guard is perfect ('05 DL650). Fit and finish couldn't be better - felt no difference at all with vibrations. I did lock-tight them on with a 18" cheater bar - - - since the bolts keep my engine from falling out!! Make sure you put some torque on the bolts. I really don't think you can over torque - - - the allen wrench would round before you could damage the bolt. The Givi bars were packaged very well from the factory. I decided on Givi beacuse they offer more fairing protection than the SW Motech.
