The bad news: the stock shock on my 2006 650 completely died at only 14,000 miles. At the same time, I learned my front fork tubes had rusted. Suzuki refused to warranty the shock (which doesn't inspire my good will) and the dealer wanted $1,200 for the stock replacement. The dealer also wanted $1,000 to replace the fork tubes. The good news: I found a good independent shop who repaired the forks for a few hundred $ and installed an Elka shock. The rear suspension is so sweet - a smooth ride with no jarring bumps over rough pavement.

I wasn't looking to spend $1000 on a shock, but the stock suspension is probably the weakest link on a Strom. The upgrade is well worth it, especially as it cost no more than a stock replacement from the dealer. My Wee now has the feel of a high end suspension, and I plan to have Elka rework the front forks in the near future. And I won't be dreaming about buying that BMW any more.

Yep. Elka is a good ride.

As for the forks, send them to Race Tech. Elka doesn't forks piston kits DL. Race Tech is home town (Corona) for you.

Shock porn....
Any pics of one installed? Where do all those hangy-off bits go? I'm currently saving up for a Sasquatch rebuild that retains the stock preload adjuster.

That black Hangy-off bit is the Pre-load adjuster, which mounts to the stock adjuster location, in case some one didn't know.

Mine is red. I would have preferred black. The other bit is the remote nitrogen/oil reservoir and compression damping adjuster.

FAST combo.

Seriously, these Elka shocks are amazing. My bike just rails.

Cheers.
