I was going to wait till this weekend to install my new Protaper bars and grip heaters, but the wife is working tonight and I thought I would at least get started. I did the bars first and all in all, everything went well. I need to finish the bar ends and throttle lock, but nothing major. Then I thought, what the heck, I will start the grip heater wiring. I got the pig tail from Zuk #36852-06G00. This plugs into the harness just above the radiator. I have read horror stories about how hard this plug is to get to. I was able to plug into this in 15 seconds!! I took the tank off and the air filter cover and element. Looked down just in front of the air box and there it is. Reached down and plugged the pig-tail in. I could not believe how easy this was. I don't know if most others do it without removing the tank, but this was EASY!!:mrgreen: No more trouble than it is to remove the tank, I highly recommend this method!!! All that is left to do tomorrow is the wiring and mount the switch. I want to clean up the wires I ran for the axillary lights as well, so this will all get done tomorrow.

handyhiker, it sound like you are on the right track. I used the pigtail method, but I was able to get to it from the right side of the bike above the front cylinder. It took a few minutes of messing with it to get the plug in, but I got it and ran the grip heater wires through with the rest of the wiring that goes to the front of the bike.
You will love the grip heaters. Yesterday the ice was finally off of the roads here and I went for a ride in 20 degree weather. The grip heaters did the trick! No more frozen fingers.

I wish I had read this before trying to install my OEM grips last weekend. The bike is so totally taken apart that I could almost do my valve adjustments now. Once I found the plug I hit the roof. The air filter was the trick after I had taken off all of the cowling, etc.

I need to spend another 5 hours putting it all back together again!

I have been afraid to start the install on my OEM grips.
I have never done new bars (But I would like the pro tapers) and am concerned about getting them on right... and getting the old ones off for that matter. I am concerned about the throttle linkage and getting it together correctly. I am just trepidacious... Maybe I should put it off until I get the new bars :D , I am sure they will come in handy this summer :rolleyes: .
I wish I had a friend close that had done this already to help me through this. Maybe I should take it to the stealer?
