I have been reading a bunch of threads on cleaning the front sprocket are.
I was thinking about drilling two or three 1/2 inch or so holes in the face of the cover to allow a good spraying of cleaner on a regular basis.
Does this cover perform a structural purpose or is it there just to keep your clothing from becoming entangled with the chain?

I cleaned mine today and after 5,500 kms most of the muck was confined to the area around the slave cylinder and rod.
Holes in the face of the cover would not access that area much better than squirting some cleaner in where the chain enters.
It may be worthwhile squirting some cleaner up the two drain holes (in the centre of the photo) now and again and then hosing it out. The problem with this cleaning method would be not knowing what it was really like in there.

I found the clean out today so quick and easy that I will just do it at engine oil change time (every 6/12) from now on.

I wonder if the sprocket cover can be modified to come off independently of the slave cyl?
