I just ordered the from powersportsplus..perhaps a bit too late.

Got it for a pretty good price: $45 shipped.

Part No: 57300-27822-291
57300-27822-291 DL650 HAND GUAR $44.79

Just wanted to triple check this fits my Wee with its ABS lines.
Can someone please confirm this?

Thanks.

Had those on my '09 (ABS)... they fit, but they are pretty lame... I mean they block the wind in all, but that's about it... I broke down and bought some BarkBusters for my '11... simply awesome they will protect my levers in case of a fall...

So I guess the answer is yes, it is the right part.
Look, I'm looking for functional wind protection. No doubt BarkBusters are better, they also cost 3X more!
With that mindset I would have gone with a BMW GSA1200R..not for a cheap Suzuki.
Then again, my DL650A is very functional..

They will work for you as far as for wind protection... Fitting is a bit finicky, but they will go on...

'finicky'? I read that the handle end weights must not be completely removed, but other than that installation should be simple. No?

I just got this update from the online shop:

"
79-57300-27822-291 : SS BY - 79-57300-27824-291 - DL650 HAND GUAR (Superseded by 79-57300-27824-291 with QTY 1)
"

Is 79-57300-27824-291 the right part no?
Why is 79-57300-27822-291 superseded?

As far as I can tell, 57300-27821-291 was the first in the series. 57300-27822-291 came out when the throttle reel changed in 2007 and the guard got a notch to clear the cables.
57300-27823-291 came out in 2009 to clear a larger clutch switch so the guard would have to be changed to clear. Heads up for 07 650 owners that want OEM handguards
The clutch switched changed entirely in 2011, even requiring a new lever, so 57300-27824-291 is here. It appears all guards may be backwards compatible but I'm not sure.

Update. Plug in any of the above numbers at MRCycles .com and (57300-27825-291) is listed as the replacement.

Thanks for the detailed answer!!
It sounds like 27824 is right part for my 2011 DL650A, but why is there a 825?
I'll probably give powersportsplus a call today.

I just bought mine from the dealer. He said 825 is the new part number. Hope that it's not for 2012 models and that's why the clutch side fit was off.

I read through the VStrom thread.
It seems 57300-27820-291 was the first in series

Here's a summary of what I've gathered from you and VStromInfo so far:

Looking at the pic of the 2009 clutch switch, it looks like it already has the lever with the drop down tang for the changed clutch switch. I think it must since the pic was in a post from April 2010.

2009

2007

The clutch switch in the parts fiche for 2009 has the same number as the 2007 switch though. Could somebody with a 2009 Wee see if their clutch lever and switch actually looks like the pictured one? Canadians with a 2010 model might check too. Assuming that is the case, people with 2009 and later Wees who want Chinese anodized levers ought to order 2011 types.

Just talked to Powersports.
They don't know what how the new 57300-27825-291 part ('5' model) is different than then '4' model, but claim that the '4' model fits 2011 DL650A.
I'm guessing here, but perhaps the '5' model is for the new 2012 models ("Glee")..?

EDIT: Also one needs to take into consideration that the Glee is not sold in the US, but is sold already in the UK. Perhaps they do have a new part that is backwards compatible but fits 2012 as well.

The saga continues..
I got another message from Powersports:
"79-57300-27825-291 : DL650 HAND GUARDS 10/26/2011 1 0 1 44.79 44.79
(Replacement part for 79-57300-27824-291)"

So now I'm supposed to get the new '5' model...

It's supposed to be the only one available now unless somebody finds a discontinued kit on a shelf somewhere.

It appears some 2009s have the large clutch switch and some have the small. It may depend on country of origin or some other factor. Those with the large switch need the 2011 style handguards and levers while the small switch can use the 2007-2008 handguards and need the 2007-2008 and earlier style levers.
