Wow. That's great. Any significant problems or repairs during this time? Any tips?

Nothing significant so far. Only warranty issue was the gear indicator acting up a bit. Replaced under warranty maybe 50,000 miles ago, Starting to act up again so dealer has ordered the parts (took a while to come before as they were back ordered and are now as well. Not really a issue more of a minor inconvenience.Wow. That's great. Any significant problems or repairs during this time? Any tips?

I proactively changed the clutch basket when the bike was pretty new as I knew it would need it anyway and I had such great success with it on my 2015 DL1000.1st off good on Ya Tom....thats a lot of riding regardless of the model
Did your bike have and or develop clutch shudder??
I had seen that you replaced the heated grips under warranty earlier....did the replacements hold up?
Mine back fires and I have 15k miles.... Crap E10 UK fuel, I guess.Nothing significant so far. Only warranty issue was the gear indicator acting up a bit. It starting backfiring on occasion week or two ago. I thought it might be fuel related but I'm back to using decent fuel so that shouldn't be the issue. When I get a chance I'll check if the intake boots are loose or if there is any other air leak.
It's running great!

Traditionally I get over 50,000 miles 80,000 km on a chain. Front Sprockets usually around 35,000 mile/70,000 km and rear sprockets could outlast the chain but are usually chainged when the chain is replaced (front sprocket replaced then as well.)So this is on your 2020 1050? That's crazy miles. You must be on your bike a lot!
I can't wait until you measure your miles in chain/sprokets.
80,000 km on a chain, whhaaaaat??Traditionally I get over 50,000 miles 80,000 km on a chain. Front Sprockets usually around 35,000 mile/70,000 km and rear sprockets could outlast the chain but are usually chainged when the chain is replaced (front sprocket replaced then as well.)
I did have an issue with what I think was a dealership in Calgary washing my bike and perhaps harming the chain as I had about 10 connected links have their O-rings damaged. a while after that.

It's not your fault. You have been given misinformation on how to maintain a chain.80,000 km on a chain, whhaaaaat??
I just changed mine at 25,000 km and it was dead to the point I was hearing knocking noises coming from who knows where every time I was accelerating or decelerating. A lot of motorway riding in these 25,000 km, probably over 15,000 km. The rest of my riding has been 75% in central London and 25% what I would qualify as "the rest" - dual carriage ways, country lanes etc. 80,000 kms on a chain, I don't understand!!
Very interesting.. Indeed, in 30 years of riding motorycles, I've only taken to regularly (and definitely too often) cleaning my chain using paraffin with the vstrom, and 25,000 km is probably the least number of kms I've ever done on a chain. It's not your fault. You have been given misinformation on how to maintain a chain.
My experience is based on 737,000+ km / 458,000 miles of Riding Stroms as opposed to listening to what people just repeat on the internet.
I never "Clean" my chain as "Cleaning" chains is a waste of effort and can hurt the chain.
Lube with every tank of gas and after every ride in the rain. This takes les than 20 seconds when done on the center stand with right hand turning the rear wheel and left hand spraying the lube on the chain.
Alternately get a Tutoro automatic chain oiler to keep you chain lubed. I had the same success with it.

I typically work about 50 hours a week, most of that it indoors. Plus I normally eat and sleep indoors at home.Tom. I was just telling the Wife about Your mileage. She asks if You are ever indoors ?![]()
Yes Shelby's modified Basket. I think mine was the first DL1050 basket he saw.! For me well worth the money plus Terry (Shelby ) is very helpful if needed.Tom when you say replaced the basket early on do you mean with a Shelby modified basket or just a new oem basket??
Changed it to what pls.? What were the issue you were wanting to resolve and what were the results you enjoy now? Have a 2020 1050XT so am wondering if this is in my future. Many thx!I proactively changed the clutch basket when the bike was pretty new as I knew it would need it anyway and I had such great success with it on my 2015 DL1000.
