I have been out playing test pilot on a couple of 1000cc V-Stroms today ( and a 650 ) , I am 182cm ( 5'11 I believe ) and due to my body proportions , I am well up on the balls of my feet not quite tiptoe when holding the bike up - ironically I could do with the bars higher up ( long body short legs ) , Is there a solution to this .
The bars there are multiple solutions - it is the seat hight causing my doubts . I have little to no interest in the 650 - I rode the Lams ( Australia ) version , after the 1000 and would not be my first choice .
So what do other short legged people do on the dl 1000 ?

I’m 5’8” and with both feet down my toes touch. Usually I just put one foot down. You get used to it... not a big deal. Also, you will learn to be very careful about where you stop... if the ground is too far away for that one foot it can be very embarrassing.. or worse. But again, you learn that lesson pretty quickly too so not a big deal.

There are quite a few after market solutions. I'm 6' with a 32" inseam. When I bought my 2012 V-1000 it came with an after market Seat Concepts seat. I don't know if it's the low seat or not, but I can flat foot it. That was a real plus after riding a KLR with a 37" seat height for the last 3 years.

You didn't mention your inseam, but a Seat Concepts "low" seat could solve your problem. They are quite inexpensive because it comes in a kit and you put it together yourself. Very easy to do.

Much more expensive, but those who have them rave about there merits, a Russel Daylong, I'm sure, would fix you right up.

Easy fix , Pony tail . Install inexpensive lowering links (more like "plates" on '14 and up ) and let a reputable upholstery shop shave just a bit of foam off the seat. If they know bikes they can put 2 divots in for butt bones . The stock cover can be used . The side stand will , in my opinion , work better with the lowering links . I think the bike leans over too far when stock . You'll get close to 2 inches lower than stock so you may want a peg lowering kit too. All reasonable and easy. Get that DL1000 . You'll love it.

So I don't know what year DL1000 you are looking at but there are a few options:

1) Adapt and overcome. I am 5'8 with a 30 inseam. I tip-toe my 05 DL1000 and have for years. While I have never fallen off, I have had to get off of it to back it into/out of a spot because my toes didn't have the strength/grip/leverage to push the beast.
2)Remove seat bump stops. This is common on the older DL1000, not sure if you can do it on the new ones
3) 650 Seat is shorter (by about .5" than) than 1000 seat. Again, depending on year, swappable
4) Aftermarket seat as mentioned earlier. Expensive, but does work
5)Lower the whole bike

For the '14 and later DL1000 Suzuki offers accessory seats that are 30mm shorter and 30mm taller than the standard supplied seat. It just so happens that I can flat-foot while on my DL1000's standard seat, but if I needed a shorter(or taller) seating position for sure that would be the route I would take.
As the poster above mentioned, if you do lower the rear, lower the front as well. But then youre dealing with sidestand angle and drivechain geometry. You would also lose ground clearance as well. I would only lower the bike as a last resort.
The Suzuki seats are color-matched to the bike, listed as $235 in their accessory catalog.

The first bike I was looking at is an '09 the second is a 2010 .
The 650 was a 2012 the seat was fine on it , It was however the Australian "LAMS" learner approved version with cut down power (48 hp)

Pony Tail, I didnt know if you were looking at the 650 or the 1000 when I posted. Suzuki lists a + 20mm seat and a -20mm seat for the '12-'16 DL650. Price is $216.

Sorry about the confusion - I was looking at both .it feels light as after H.D. Tourglide with full ( steel) crash bars and luggage protection ( my current touring bike )
and also my inside leg is 77cm ( about 30.5 inches I believe )
I like the old Harley but as I am getting older , I am finding it a bit heavy on dirt and gravel roads - I do not go "off road " but some Aussie rural area unsurfaced roads are not well maintained . So I am looking for a lighter tourer hence the interest in the DL1000 .
Half the weight of the Harley , similar power decent road manners , and decent dirt road manners and can carry quite a bit of kit all for a reasonable price and pretty good on fuel .

Similarly, I was looking for a sport-tourer as a gift to myself for retirement, and was all set on the Yamaha FJR1300. Until I sat on it(no more legroom than my Kawasaki ZRX1100), and 200+ lbs heavier to boot. I came across a left over '14 DL1K...and the rest is history. The best choice I could have made. 1500-mile round trip to Deals Gap and back, was the perfect "dancing partner" the whole way.

I had the standard height seat on my 1000, and after enough of not feeling secure when stopped, especially if off camber, I went and bought the low seat from Suzuki. Sits a little lower now, won’t know until Spring how much of n improvement it is.

Weather permitting I hope to be looking at a full power (not LAMS ) 650 . It is a fair way away and I do not own a car .
If the 650 will do the job then I would prefer not to spend the extra dollars and in Australia the dollars do not buy near as much bike .
Just making sure that the 650 is not an option before I go seriously into blowing my budget and buying a 1000 and modding it ( I do not need to mod the 650 as I can stand with both feet flat footed )

At this stage I looks as if I am looking at a circa 2012 DL650 non lams .
I had a red herring in the mix doing the test rides - a Honda 1200 Crosstourer , easily my pick out of all of them but way out of my budget .
Comes down to DL1000 or DL650 and own it or nice flash Honda and 2 years debt - yeah right I will go with what I can afford ( gees those salesmen are sharp he nearly had me thinking about the Honda ) but back to the reality of life - you make a budget because that is what you can afford , If I can't pay for it I can't afford it .

I have an 09 650 with the stock seat, I'd be willing to trade as I'm actually a little tall and would prefer more height, thats up to you

Problem with that dude , you are in Texas I am in Australia ,

Lowering …

Pony Tail,

I ride a DL650. I'm quite short so I lowered it using variable links (so I can adjust the height when I need to) at the rear and dropped it through the clamps at the front - by putting bar risers on, I dropped front and back the same amount. I also have a variable height side stand.

I have no doubt you could do the same on a 1000, perhaps even using the same parts.

As for relative power with load, the heaviest I've been is 80 kg, plus about 60 kg of load on the bike. Currently I'm 60 kg, but in either case the 650 is powerful enough for me - but I do notice a slight difference with a pillion, but not enough to worry me. Apparently the 1000 uses significantly more fuel, if that is a consideration for you.

From my experience, if you choose the one you like, you'll get a lot of pleasure from riding it, so don't worry too much.
