Will mounting a shifter directly to the gear shaft have any adverse long- or short-term effects?

I removed the OEM linkage and shifter and installed one for a DR650 I got from RonAyers.com. The shift pattern is now 1 up and 5 down, and after a 90 mile test ride, I find I'm liking it quite a bit. The shifter is longer and fits my foot better, and rolling through the gears seems to feel more natural.

Also included a pic or two of my home-grown Stebel mounting bracket. The original idea belongs to others . . . I just oriented the bracket so the horn trumpets face forward. Quite the attention-getter . . .

Nice! Very O.E.M. Looking bracket..:-D.
Will moisture into the Horn cause any problems ??
I've been trying to determine the best way to mount my aftermarket horn & have considered facing it forward also:???:

If Stebel's instructions are gospel, then the horn should be fine mounted vertically. If I do experience any problems, I'll be sure to post'em.

Thanks for the info re: the shifter, Greywolf! I feel much better about the mod now.

Take care.
