On previous bikes I've mounted Piaa "Cross Country" HID lights and was very pleased with them. Especially their low current draw.

Presently I'm looking to equip my 07 DL650A with either HIDs or LEDs and wonder if anyone would care to comment re the advantages/disadvantages of the Piaa "Cross Country" HIDs versus LED lights like "Solstice" and "VisionX" and particularly the "Denali" lights.

As always, thanks for the responses.

Bumpity bump.

Also, the Denali lights are the VisionX lights, rebranded as part of a kit with wiring harness, switch, and mount.

Okay here's my take on lights. I like Halogen and LED's for the simple fact you can turn them off and on whenever you want. HIDs are meant to be turned on and left on. There are more parts, ballasts, bulbs and stuff which tells me there is a better chance of something going south.
Also there is the cost factor. I would have to ride a lot more at night to justify a few hundred bucks for HIDs. SilverStars and MR 16 LEDs are cheap and give me a nice triangle for oncoming traffic.

Installed the Denali lights Saturday. Headed out of town until Monday afternoon. All told was probably 5 hours of dark night riding. They have two benefits for me. Conspicuity and throwing light down the road.

Cagers see these lights coming. Amazingly, they'd get the hell over when I approached in the passing lane...the lane they've been cruising 10 under the speed limit in. Also could see the cagers sitting at adjoining intersection streets watch me come and go through the intersection. Just better than what I've grown used to.

I was surprised by the amount of light that these things throw down the road. It's definitely more scattered and likely to annoy oncoming traffic and people you may be following at night. I'll tweak as necessary to minimize it. On the other hand, that means they know I'm there. Nobody flashed me or made obscene gestures that I could see.

Actually pics of new crashbars but the Denali lights made it into a couple. Still need to get thread/nut covers to clean up top of the mounting bolts. Mounted under the bar to get separation from the headlights.

the top set is now 3 watt. Theya re a lot cheaper but those visions x in the danaili kit are amazing at 10watts. I would love to replace the upper set in my picture witht hese but at 330$ canadian its hard to drop that cash as thats enough to do the front suspension. O and nope I am not using that light bar for the wee lol

You might want to check out the following recent threads on Denalis and on the Clearwater Glenda LEDs that I recently mounted.
