I just finished installing a new CyClops TPMS.
CyClops recommends using metal valve stems when mounting the external sensors on the valve stems..

I'm finding all kinds of metal valve stems on he internet. My question is that: who here has been in this situation?
And where did you get the metal valves? And how are they working?
I picked up a set of Xtra Seal tire valve at O'Riley Auto parts. But for some reason they just don't look like most of what I've been seeing on the net.

But I've also seen some "naughs" :frown2: about even changing them from the rubber stems.

I put something similar on a friends Subaru. He buys a lot of pricey toys but he likes that he can monitor the tires.
They seem to be accurate.
I had the factory TPMs on my 800ST BMW. It's nice to not have to crawl on the ground to check the tires.
These units are a viable replacement when the factory units die. At least these are easily accessible for new batteries.
AS far as stems go the only stems I ever changed was on a Lester wheel and I went from tube to tubeless and got a couple at the auto store without thinking about it too much. I had to drill the hole in the rim to allow for the new stem.

I know that the hole in the rim is 0.453. And on the package it says that it fits 0.453 to 0.625 rim holes.
The thing that looks strange here is that there is no rubber seal for the upper or outer part of the stem. Just the nut would be tightened against the rim.
And most of the pictures I've seen on line shows two rubber seals. One rubber seal that would be on the inside of the rim and another rubber seal on the outside of the rim with a nut, and washer on top of that.

Hope this makes sense.

I know, I know, this would be so simple if I would just learn how to post pictures.

Recently I got new tires on the GSXS at Cycle Gear and had them put on metal valve stems just in case I wanted to install TPMS. They are the straight version, very sturdy and look nice. Don't think there was a rubber seal on the outside, but not 100% sure. Since you have to unmount the tire to install, will get the same on the V2 when I get new tires. I know a lot of folks have said they use these on rubber stems with no issues. Problem can be that the extra weight of the sensor causes the stem to bend at speed, repeated bending can cause a failure. Probably depends on how fast you drive, and how long and pliable the valve stem is.

I would question that hole size - .0453 is less than 1/16".

I have been using the stem style TPMS on bikes & cars for around 10 years and have only ever used rubber stems and on bikes with heaps more "giddy up" than a Strom and I have never been concerned.

My Garmin system asked for steel stems (I did not use steel), Tyredog and the other system I linked do not.

This has been discussed on this site before and I did post up the weights of the senders of the 3 brands I use for those interested.

The stems on my Strom are quite short but the ones on my box trailer are very long, designed to extend past dress rims, the stems would be over 10 years old and I would have no concerns about towing that trailer.

Change your rubber stems every time you change your tyres and you should never have a problem.

That's just what I was wanting to hear.
And I did see one of those threads a while ago. The sensors are so light I too have a hard time believing that they would cause a problem.
And I always change the valve stem when I put on a new tire. I've always figured that pretty cheap insurance.

Rolex - is there a brand or brands that you have found work best for a bike? Ones to avoid? Just looking on Amazon there are a dizzying array available.

I have a set of running lights that are switched and fused that I tapped into the line because it was close.
I just have to remember to turn the lights on so that the TPMS will work.
