Hi;
What is the recommended upper (MOTORCYCLE ENGINE GUARD CRASH CAGE) Suzuki DL 1050 xt for protection the fuel tank ?

Can Chinese products be trusted?

I fitted some from Heed which I've been very happy with (but not yet tested, thankfully). They were the only manufacturer I could find at the time who provided upper bars that you could fit with the XT's lower bars as well.

Not sure I'd trust Chinese build quality. Here's a photo with the Heed bars, but without the crash bar bags. I bought the Heed crash bar bags that are shaped to fit the gap, and they work pretty well though not as perfectly as I'd hoped.

The Heed bars are more expensive than some others, but many of the others require removal of the stock lower bars. I actually really like how well those bars protected the shifter when I dropped my Strom in slimy dust-mud in 2021.

I also fitted my bike with the Heed upper crash bars. I did this over the Christmas-New Years holiday so I have yet to take the bike on a ride with them.

One thing to note.
The lower crash bars doubled as highway pegs. I was able to rest my legs on them to stretch my legs. The calf part of my leg would rest on the factory lower crash bars.
This is no longer possible as the Heed crash bars mounting points are in the way and take up the resting spot.

A bit of a bummer. I might have to find a different solution for highway pegs.

@AKStrom
Which skid plate do you have mounted on the bike?
As important as the way these systems work, is how and where they “mount” to your motorcycle. I have seen some true crap masquerading as crash protection. The skid plate may look fine UNTIL it is smashed in against the engine sump due to string cheese mounting hardware.

YMMV and I’m post Suzuki now.
