On my KLR I have an "engine guard" crash bar with highway pegs. It is very good for long distance (and short distance!) travels, because it allows me to move my feet forward so my knees do not hurt.

What is the equivalent on a V-Strom? I sat on a DL-650 today and the position was very much like my KLR (even to the point of needing to tippy-toe when upright!), but for any distance longer than commuting to work and back I'll need something that gives highway pegs like Happy Trail for KLR-650 gives. There does not seem to be any lower fairing which would interfere (unlike on my old Kawasaki Concours), just a question of, which ones give some reasonably low and forward highway pegs?

Thanks!

Happy Trail doesn't appear to have any bar with folding highway pegs for DL-650 anymore, unless you somehow adapted the engine guard bar for some other motorcycle to your setup ...

I have some highway pegs/Givi bars on a 650. Not too bad a fit considering the shape of the bars and available mounting location.

Been looking over on the Yahoo DL-650 list (which has a working search function, unlike this forum ), and there was someone who was extolling the Pat Walsh guards, which have a footpeg mount at the crossbar. I looked at the pictures and it looked interesting but the footpeg looked a bit high? Or is that just an optical illusion from the angle at which the photos were taken?

If the Givis have some normal 1" tube crashbars, I have some pegs that could mount to them somewhere in my junk boxes. They're made for clamping to Hardley crashbars but those are made out of 1" tubing, so (shrug). (Yes, I have too much junk!).

Thing I hear about the Givis, looking at various postings about them, is that apparently they vibrate annoyingly. Hmm. As far as a skidplate goes I don't intend to take a 'Strom offroad -- I have my KLR for that -- but can envision occasional gravel road use and the Pat Walsh skidplate/crashbar combo and oil cooler guard might be useful for that.

I have givi bars and the hwy pegs from twisted throttle and don't have this vibration that there are rumors about. As has been said, the givis don't have much mounting area for pegs but I've been pleasantly surprised with mine. If I set the achilles heel part of my boot on them I can stretch my legs fully out. They're pretty cool to have; I like them.
