Greetings all,

I purchased and installed TKC70's. Up close and personal these look great and will likely work out fine. However they do not come with the paint dot to help with balancing. I am having difficulty getting the from tire balanced and it is causing a steering wobble on decal or down hill. Looking for answers anybody?

What do you mean by balancing? How are you doing it? Static or dynamic with a machine? Any tire will balance regardless of a dot, the dot just helps the balance require less weight

Not all tires have a dot.

I like the TKC 70 and was leaning that way for my next set. Continental tires in other types have caused decel wobbles in stroms, so it may be a tire tread pattern issue. Stroms have a steep steering head angle and front tire choice is critical for them.

I have a Mark Parnes static balancer. It's the wobble that concerns me.

So, I assume the static balance is OK, that's how I do it. How much weight did it take?

Try this, put 40 -42 psi in it so the tire tread is up on the crown more and see if wobble changes. You may have a steering bearing issue that these tires have magnified.

My strom would not run front Tourance tires because of wobble and they would balance fine.

P.S. - where did you buy the TKC70 and how much were they?

I'll try increasing pressure to see if getting it up on the center decreases the wobble. 5 1/4 oz stick-on weights 3 on one side 2 on the other. Steering head bearings are correctly adjusted. Motosport, Oregon. Too much $298.00/set.

I'm about 98% sure I'm going to put TKC70's on my 2012 DL650 in the next 3-4 weeks (been riding on a plugged rear tire for the last 5K miles). I have, however, read enough similar stories from other Strom purchasers that I'm getting a little leery.

What year and model bike did you put the rubber on? I'd appreciate it if you'd keep us up to date on your progress. I'll be following closely.

Take the weights off and have a shop spin balance the tire. While you're at it, take a good look to be sure the tire is concentric and the beads are fully set in position.

Not all tires have the colored dots, and not all tire makers use the same code. Usually, if the tire has a red dot, that is the stiff area on the sidewalk and should be matched to the low spot of the rim (tires are not perfectly uniform, and rims are not perfectly uniform). If the tire has a yellow dot, that is the heavy spot that should be mounted by the valve where the drilling in the rim removed metal. If the tire has both a red and a yellow dot, use the red dot at the low spot on the rim. If there are no dots, then the tire might be so uniform that it doesn't need the dots.

Follow up to the original post. Everything is now in proper balance with no wobble at all. Instead of putting all the weights in one spot 180 degrees of the heavy point the weights were divided and placed about 5 inches to either side of that point. It still required 4 1/4 oz weights. With hands off the bars they are rock steady on decel and or down hill.
I also will tell you these are very sticky tires on pavement. I have only ridden long dirt driveways so far. I can say they do inspire confidence on that surface.
I'm a happy guy now.:thumbup:

Thanks for the follow-up! I've had very good luck using Ride-On for tire balancing and I intend to use it with the new tires as well. I'll report back in a few weeks.

After having my new TKC70's sit in my garage for the last 10 days, I finally got off my butt, took the wheels off and had the new tires mounted. Just finished putting the wheels back on - haven't taken the bike for a spin yet. Have set tire pressure to 34 front, 38 rear. Will give my first ride report in a couple of days.

As I ride mine more I am really liking this tire. As sticky as they feel I wonder what kind of wear I'm going to see.

I like the look of this tire and plan to install some about May or June, but I am reading threads like this with much interest to see how they wear. Now that the weather is getting better, people should be putting some miles on them and reporting back about the mileage.

Interesting that spreading the weights out helped with the wobble. I have only had one bike that required that much weight to balance, most of the ones I have done required very little to no weight.

Damn good looking tire, that front looks a bit like a Metzler Tourance. Anxious to see the wear and handling reports, although I doubt they will ever replace Shinko 705's for me.

I'm thinking this could be the tire for the Alaska trip we are planning on in June. I just wore out the PR3 rear at 8,000 miles and was thinking on using them again but this TKC 70 looks really good to me.

As soon as the TR91's that came on my bike wear out i'm spooning on a set of these. The K60 seems like it would be a drag to ride on pavement but the TR91 is worthless on gravel. These seem like the perfect tires for the Strom.
